Improving communication: a proposal

Introduction

In this proposal I will describe some of the difficulties students at this school
face when communicating, present the key needs to be addressed and conclude by
making a series of recommendations on how school teachers could assist and guide
studentsto improve their communication skills.

Current situation

Following a series of discussions among students, it has become apparent that many
of them feel really nervous when speaking in public. Some of the students have
admitted that they do not have enough self-confidence to speak in public, while
others claimed that they would have become great speakers if they had practised
more. Comments may suggest that students lack activities that eventually would
give them the opportunity to speak in front of others.

Key needs to be addressed

First and foremost, students require additional help with speaking topics. Also, they
should be taught how to build up self-confidence. Additionally, opportunities need
to be provided for students, in order to get them accustomed to public speaking.

Recommendations

I would suggest the following actions:

 Organize debates periodically.

 Provide students with a list of interesting debate topics.
 I recommend that students who attend debates should be given more spare
time to be able to prepare better for their speech.
 Upfront speaking opportunities should be incorporated into classes,
including small team projects that encourage communication.

Implementing these suggestions will lead to increased student self-confidence and

communication abilities.
