THE ANALYZE OF ANALYTICAL TEXT IN METADISCOURSE METHOD

I. Theoritical Background

In the learning English, the one of types of text that must be studied is
Analytical Exposition Text. Analytical Exposition is text is a text that contains the
author’s thought about things that occur around both object of occurrence or place. Its
social function is to persuade the reader that something is the case.

Moreover, in this opportunity, the writers want to analyze Analytical Exposition


Text with using metadiscourse method. Metadiscourse is the cover term for the self-
reflective expressions used to negotiate interactional meaning in a text, assisting the
writer (or speaker) to express a viewpoint and engage with readers as members of a
particular community (Hyland, 2005:37).

Halliday (1994:70) says that propositional material is something that can be


argued about, affirmed, denied, doubted, insisted upon, qualified, tempered, regretted
and so on. Meanwhile, metadiscourse is explicit markers which help readers to identify
how a writer’s arguments are to be understood and the role is to show the writer’s
communicative intent in presenting propositional matter (Beauvais, 1989).

In this case, metadiscourse can be seen as a tool of linguistics (language) in


social interaction or communication between text makers and users. Metadiscourse is a
term that is widely used in discourse analysis and language education that relates to
interactive conceptualization or communication between text beares and users.

II. DISCUSSION

This is the text that the writers corrected:

a) Analytical Exposition Text by: Miftakhul Jannah

Is kids program on YouTube educational for children? ...............

YouTube is one form of social media that is very popular nowadays. YouTube
has many once benefits for all group including children. Nowadays, YouTube not
only used as an entertainment, but also as source learn for children. Whatever they
want to learn, almost all is available in YouTube.  Therefore, many people especially
parents believe that kids program on YouTube can be one of the best choices for
learning, but also as entertainment for their children if used properly. I personally
believe that kids program on YouTube have some benefits in educating children.

Firstly, can improve children’s creative thinking

As we know that children like to try new things and do experiment. Parents
who forbid their children to do new things will make children unable to think
creatively. Therefore, parents must support them if that is good. Then, with the
existence of kids program on YouTube can help children think more creatively. As
example on the channels on YouTube such as DM Creative School and Whiz Kid
Science.The channels provide videos about the idea of simple activity for children that
can be practiced easily by them.

Secondly, can increase children’s knowledge

Children can learn with fun on YouTube. As example on the channels in Make
Me Geneius, Paman Apiq and This Budi.Org. On those channels, children can learn
English with fun and learn mathematics with enjoyably.             

Thirdly, can develop children’s talent

As parents, we must support what is the children’s talent. Therefore, parents


can use the kid’s program on YouTube to develop their talent. As example on the
channels on YouTube such as Pinkfong and Disney Junior can to be source reference
for parents. On those channels provide interesting videos for learning to sing. So that
children can learn to sing and explore their talents.

Based on explanation in above, I concluded that kids program on YouTube


have some benefits in educating children, if parents used properly. As for the benefits
that can be obtained such as improve children’s creative thinking, can increase
children’s knowledge and can develop children’s talent. Therefore, it’s important for
parents to make the best use of technology especially kids program on YouTube.

Based on the data above, it is known that the text who made by Miftakhul Jannah is that she uses “Interactional Metadiscourse” rather than
“Interactive Metadiscorse”. Miftakhul Jannah is more often use “Attitude Makers” for her text.
III. CONCLUSION

As the result is, the text that writer analyze is Analytical Exposition Text made by
Miftakhul Jannah. The writer used “Metadiscourse” method to analyzed those
text.

It is known as Miftakhul Jannah is more often use Attitude Marker, because so


many verb phrase on those text.
