community.

A Source with Statistics
(Numbers)
Ocean pollution is a serious issue in California, with “at least
267 species worldwide” being impacted by plastic trash that
ends up in our waters (Clean Water Action, 2018).
~THE STATISTIC IS THE NUMBER
Creating Pages on Our
Website
(Home Page/Issue, Solutions, Why I Chose This
Issue)
Follow along on the screen first, then:
Click on Pages, click the plus (+) sign in the upper left hand
corner, click Standard Page, type in a new page name, and
click Done.
Open Research Time
Browse the web to find relevant, CREDIBLE articles and
websites about your chosen community advocacy issue. Take
the url, copy, and paste it into your Google Document. Try and
see if you can find AT LEAST EIGHT different websites. :-)
Objective:
SWBAT determine the feasibility of the solutions they
recommend for their advocacy projects by utilizing a checklist
FEASIBILITY

Possible to do or carry out, something that is practical

Feasibility
Checklist
1. Availability of Resources (Money, Time, and People)
2. Specificity
3. Scope & Reach
Ocean Pollution in Southern
California
(Feasible Solution)
Solution 1: I will post flyers around my local high school
reminding students to pick up their trash and recycle, so trash
does not fly into drains.
I have access to paper, it is specific, I will reach my student body.
Ocean Pollution in Southern
California
(Unfeasible Solution)
Solution 2: I will get rid of ocean pollution by fining each person I
see littering at the beach.
I don’t have the ability to be at the beach 24/7, it is not specific
enough, and I cannot realistically reach everyone.
Think Time and Turn and Talk
What is an issue that you are passionate about in your
community and why? Silently think to yourself for one minute,
then turn and talk for three.
How Do We Know If
Something Is Credible?

-Peer-reviewed publications (colleges, higher education,

research)

-News sources
Source Hunting
Source 1: Air Quality in San Antonio
Website: SACurrent.com
Credible Because:
-It has links to .org websites
-It quoted an environmental agency
-It has statistics about pollution with specific numbers
-Find an issue and note the source
-List three reasons why it is credible
Homework: Interview an
adult (get out a sheet of
paper):
Question 1: What is an issue in our community that concerns
you?
Question 2: What are some solutions you can think of to
resolving this issue?
