Winter Penguins with Watercolor and Construction

Kindergarten - 1st Grade

Day 1: Watercolor Paper


❏ Powerpoint on Warm and Cool Colors
❏ Paint White Paper 8.5” x 11” (put name on back BEFORE painting)
❏ Cool Colors Station
❏ Warm Color Station
❏ Splatter with watery white paint (Optional)

Day 2: Cut Out Penguin Shapes


❏ Review Warm & Cool Colors
❏ Rainbow tummy (Black Paper)
❏ Smaller rainbow (White Paper)
❏ Oval or football for arms (Black Paper)
❏ Circle Eyes (White & Black)
❏ Fold in half to make 2 identical shapes
❏ Triangle Nose (Orange paper)
❏ Crown shape for feet (orange paper)

Day 3: Make Your Penguin Warm!


❏ Read a book about Winter or Penguins
❏ Review warm and cool colors
❏ “Make your penguins warm!”
❏ If you did warm colors for your background pick cool colors for your warm items and vise versa
❏ Scarf, Mittens, Hat

Materials Needed:
8.5” x 11” white paper to be painted
Paper Cut into rectangles to be cut into different shapes (Black, White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink)
Watercolors
Glue
Watery White paint (Optional)
Scissors
