17. Fire alarm
Emergency communication systems shall be capable of the reproduction of pre-recorded, synthesized, or live (e.g. microphone,
telephone handset, and radio) messages with voice intelligibility.
Voice communication system shall generate alert and alarm signals via tone generators. Tone generators shall be programmable.
Voice communication circuits shall utilize a 70 volt distribution system.
Failure of any ampli er in the system shall not degrade the system performance in anyway. Hence at each FACP the designer shall
provide standby ampli er for each type and size of ampli er.
A built-in microphone located at the FCC shall be provided to allow paging through speaker circuits. A tone generator shall be
incorporate in each FACP. The use of a central tone generator is not acceptable.
A reman’s telephone system, separate to the main building PABX system, will be provisioned for use by the re- ghting services.
The area of refuge (rescue assistance) emergency communications system shall be comprised of remotely located area of refuge
stations and a central control point.
The area of refuge station shall provide for hands-free, two-way communication, provide an audible and visible signal to indicate
communication has occurred and indicate to the receiver the location sending the signal.
