SecurOS 5 Quick User Guide
Preface

1 Preface
This section contains general information about the document, the means of its design and use, as well
as on how to get additional technical support for the product.

1.1 Scope

This document describes the SecurOS minimum user interface on an Operator Workstation, procedures
of solution the routine security problems. It contains illustrated examples of the work with the system.

It is assumed that the user have already deployed the security network physically and installed
SecurOS software on all computers of this network.

1.2 Target Audience

We have designed this guide particularly for SecurOS operators. We assume that the user has basic
knowledge of using mouse and keyboard.

The manual is recommended to read after the SecurOS simple configuration, to get acquainted with the
product base functionality.

1.3 Using This Manual

This document is organized in such a way that the user can use both its printed and the electronic
version. In the latter case one can use the Adobe Reader's Bookmarks feature as well as cross-reference
hyperlinks to navigate through content.

1.4 Getting Technical Support

1.5 SecurOS Editions Naming Convention

This document represents a common manual for several editions of the "SecurOS security system'' that
differs on functional capabilities:

SecurOS Enterprise;
SecurOS Prof essional;
SecurOS Xpress;
SecurOS Lite.

For the product designation regardless of its edition the SecurOS united term is used in the framework
of the given document.

Sections that describe the functionality available for some editions are marked by the special footnote
which example is presented below:

The functionality is available in the following editions: SecurOS Enterprise, SecurOS Prof essional,

SecurOS Xpress, SecurOS Lite.

1.6 Design Convention

For various terms and titles representation the following fonts and formatting tools are used in this
document.

User Interface

4 User Interface
This section describes basic components of the GUI.

4.1 Operator Desktop

On working with the system different applications (for example, the Monitor and the Map v2) are used.
With their help the operator has possibility to work with video received from the camera, to control the
camera using PTZ device, to work with video records, etc.

Some applications can be united on independent from each other Desktops. Simultaneously only one
Desktop application can be used. Number of Desktops and its components are set by the system
administrator.

Example. For example, the administrator has set two operator Desktops. The first Desktop includes only one
application — the Monitor (see figure 3), the second Desktop consists of the Monitor and the Map v2
applications (see figure 4).

4.2 Control Panel

The control panel is intended for switching between operator Desktops, to change of the user and
shutdown the system. Its appearance is shown on the figure 5.

Figure 5. SecurOS Control Panel

Additional Inf ormation

The control panel also can be used to launch special system control commands. The given possibility depends on
system settings.

Only active Desktops and Macros are displayed on the control panel. Number of the displayed object of
each type is defined by system settings and changes dynamically. If max value is exceeded all
additional objects are hidden and can be activated from the appropriate menu:

 — for the Desktops;

 — for the Macros.

4.2.1 Control Panel Activation

By default after logging in the control panel is hidden. To display it after logging in push the Ctrl key
and, retaining its pushed, move the mouse pointer to the upper screen edge.

User Interface

Additional Information
The control panel also can be activated by double click on an application icon in Windows taskbar (system tray), or
by means of the application icon context menu.

4.2.2 Base Operations With The Control Panel

This section describes the following operations, performed with the help of control panel:
Desktop Administration;
Users Sessions Administration;
Hide Control Panel.

4.2.2.1 Desktop Administration

By default after a logging in the operator Desktop defined in the system settings by the administrator is
launched.

For switching between Desktops (or the Desktop activation if all Desktops are hidden) click the

corresponding Desktop button, or select the Desktop from the menu (see Control Panel section).

4.2.2.2 Users Sessions Administration

The control panel allows to change the user and shutdown the system. Click the Change user/

Shutdown system button ( , see Control Panel section) and select a necessary command from
the drop-down list. Detailed description is in the Changing User And Logging Off section.

4.2.2.3 Hide Control Panel

After control panel is activated it permanently displayed on the desktop over all other windows. To

hide it manually click Hide Control Panel button ( ).

4.3 Monitor - Application To Display And Work With Video

Monitor represents the main application used by the operator, and is intended for an output and
operation with the video received from cameras.
Video from separate cameras is displayed in cells of which the central (working) area of the Monitor
consists. There are the control elements intended for performance of typical operations in a camera cell.
There are the toolbars serving for performance of other operations along the edges of working area.
The Monitor appearance with default settings is presented on figure 6.

Figure 6. Monitor in live mode

By default the Monitor launches right after a logging in if by the administrator it is not set differently.
There can be several Monitors, settings of which are set by the administrator and can differ.

4.3.1 Activating Cameras

To activate a camera do the following actions:

1. Choose a corresponding camera from the Camera Block (see figure 7).

Figure 7. Choosing camera from the Camera Block

2. Click on the required one. Video from the camera will be displayed in theMonitor active cell.

4.3.2 Layouts And Pages

Video received from all cameras connected to system, is displayed on the Monitor simultaneously, in a
page mode. The Monitor page is the working area that contains that number of cells which is defined by
a current layout. The Monitor layout is set by mouse click on the corresponding button of the Layouts
Bar (see figure 8) which is highlighted.

Figure 8. Layout bar

Number of the Monitor pages depends both on current layout, and from total quantity of the cameras
connected to the system. If the total quantity of the cameras connected to the system exceeds an
admissible number of the cells displayed on one page at the selected layout, the remained cells are
displayed on the next page. Switching to the next page (paging) in manual or an automatic mode is
carried out by means of Cameras Control Bar (see figure 9).

Figure 9. Cameras Control

Bar

Example. If 20 cameras are connected to the system and the 3x3 layout is selected then the total number of
the Monitor pages is 3, thus the last page will contain only 2 cells.

4.3.3 Cameras In Cells

By default the cameras order in cells of the Monitor pages is set by the system and can be changed the
user.

4.3.3.1 Reordering Cameras In Cells

To change cameras order in page cells do the following actions:

1. If needed switch to the page which the cameras order in cells is necessary for changing. To switch
