General 211 Issue 2

New Starter Motors July 2008

This service bulletin applies to engines models CP, AA, AB, AD, AE, AF, AG, AH, AJ, AK, AL, AM, AQ, AR, AS, YA, YB,
YD, YE, YG, YH, YK, 1100 Series models DC, DD, DF, DG, DJ, DK, XL, XM, RE, RF, RG, RH, RJ, RK, RR, RS, RT, NH,
NJ, NK, NL, NM, VK, PJ and PK.
Due to Perkins continuous product improvement program, new and improved starter motors have been introduced.
For engines that have a starter motor installed on the right hand side of the engine, the current starter motor (Perkins part
number 2873K404) has been replaced by starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K621).
The exception to this change is the current starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K404) is replaced with a heavy duty
starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K601). The size of the electrical terminals on the heavy duty starter motor are M10.
The heavy duty starter motor replacement applies to the build lists that are shown in Table 1.

For engines that have a starter motor installed on the left hand side of the engine, the current starter motor (Perkins part
number 2873K405) has been replaced by starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K625).
Note: Perkins part number 2873K624 has been replaced by 2873K625 in March 2008. The parts are interchangeable.
The first exception to this change is the current starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K405) is replaced with
starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K627). The starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K627)
replacement applies to the build lists that are shown in Table 2.

The second exception to this change is the current starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K405) is replaced with a heavy
duty starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K605). The size of the electrical terminals on the heavy duty starter motor are
M10. The heavy duty starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K605) replacement applies to the build list NJ38698.
The third exception to this change is the current starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K405) is replaced with a heavy
duty starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K607). The size of the electrical terminals on the heavy duty starter motor are
M10. The heavy duty starter motor (Perkins part number 2873K607) replacement applies to the build lists that are shown
in Table 3.
