The document provides a lesson on practicing and preparing for extreme environments. It contains a passage about a climber who had a frightening experience while climbing an active volcano. As the volcano began erupting, the climber's survival instinct kicked in and they ran down the volcano and into the sea to escape the lava that was flowing towards the beach. The document then asks the reader to reflect on what they have learned from the activities in the lesson.

2 Choose the correct options in 1–6.
First of all, let me tell you about myself. I am an endurance/endure1 athlete. I climb mountains, and I run, swim and cycle very long distances. I have been in many dangerous situations. But one day last year, I had the most frightening experience of my life. I was taking part in an international climbing competitor/competition2 . I had to reach the top of as many volcanoes as I could in one month. So that’s why I was on a small desert island in the middle of the ocean, hiking up the side of a volcano. I was nearly at the top, and I was feeling good. It was hot, but there was no rain or wind. Overall, conditions were trivial/ideal3 . Suddenly, I started to hear a strange noise, and the ground began to shake. It was like an earthquake. It was then that I realised I was on an activity/active4 volcano, and it was going to erupt. My survivor/survival5 instinct took over. I ran down the side of the volcano as fast as I could. I made it to the beach, and I looked behind me. I could see that lava/liquid6 was already coming out of the top, and it was starting to move down the mountain. It was coming towards me. I knew I wasn’t safe on the beach, so I jumped into the sea and I started to swim.
