RiverTrek is Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s annual awareness and fundraising

campaign supporting our outreach, education and advocacy efforts.

This annual volunteer-based fundraiser and awareness campaign benefits

Apalachicola Riverkeeper (AR), a member based non-profit organization
dedicated to the protection and stewardship of the Apalachicola River and Bay.
AR volunteers organize the RiverTrek event. Volunteer paddlers are recruited and
selected by April 15th, 2020. Fundraising begins in summer 2019. The RiverTrek
paddling trip occurs October 6-10, 2020. A limited group of 16 kayak paddlers
travel the 107-mile length of the Apalachicola River in 5 days, averaging 20+ miles
per day with additional side-trip options. Each night paddlers camp along the
river’s bank. Prior to launch, the volunteer paddlers seek donations from friends,
family members, businesses and community members. RiverTrek volunteer
paddlers are asked to set a minimum individual fundraiser goal of $1,000. Most
previous volunteers far exceeded the minimum donation goal. Including related
fundraising events, the 2019 RiverTrek Team collectively raised more than
$62,000!

April 6th From the Governor Stone:

We received a call from our FEMA representative today!

This is from her email confirming that call: "Per our conversation, Project # has
advanced to Process step: Pending Insurance Peer Review. So, we are waiting on
the reviewers to ensure that everything is correct in the Insurance Portion of the
Project. This is Great News! I hope to have another update to you sooner than
later letting know that I will be reviewing the Project to accept and sending it your
way for the same! Our goal is Obligation and we are not far off. If you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at any point."
Translation: We are still in a holding pattern but are one baby step closer to
completion!!
From the Forgotten Coast Parrot Head Club on 3/28:
The only thing we can say is....WOW, JUST WOW!
We had been hearing for some time how blood donations had dropped
tremendously (and for good reason), and supplies are low. So we decided we had
to do SOMETHING to help in this tumultuous time! We contacted OneBlood and
set up an "unscheduled" blood drive. We really didn't know what to expect. There
were a few dissenting voices, again, understandably so, but we felt compelled to
help!
You guys, the citizens of the Forgotten Coast not only showed up, but in record
numbers! The OneBlood folks have said that a successful drive for our area is
about 10/11 pints. We have recently been averaging 25 pints. After everything
was said and done, 34 people had the courage to show up, and 31 pints of blood
were collected! Potentially, 93 lives were saved on Thursday (3.26.20)!
We're proud of you Forgotten Coast! When there is a need, you always come
through, even in the face of a faceless enemy!
THANK YOU!
FINS WAYTheUP!
Crooked River Grill raised over $500 for our American Legion
The last 2 Fridays!
Thank you, Nola and crew for doing this for our Legion!! If you weren’t able to get
a burger the last two, they were delicious! You will have another chance this
Friday. Yes, they are going to do the same thing for our Legion this Friday, too!
Y’all are awesome!!!!

Important message regarding the 2020 Census in Franklin County:

The Franklin County 2020 Compete Census Committee is urging everyone in
Franklin County to DO NOT to wait on an invitation from the US Bureau of the
Census, but to go online at a special site: www.my2020census.gov/
and use their street address to sign in. The process takes only a few minutes using
this approach. The COVID-19 has affected all of us in this county; the 2020 Census
population numbers will affect us for the next decade. Mayor Brenda La Paz

If you would like to help our community by sewing face masks, Please
