Goals:
 Delve deeper into a passage from your gospel.
 Be exposed to what ought to happen at Sunday Masses - the homily
serves to interpret and unfold the relationship between the readings
and the theological messages contained therein.
 Review the different types of Biblical interpretation
o Literal sense - what the gospel author is attempting to show
(e.g. Jesus fulfilling Old Testament prophecies),
o Allegorical (typological) – The way in which a passage
foreshadows or reveals God’s work for and with humanity
climaxing in Jesus.
o Moral – what the passage means for how one should live.
o Anagogical – what the reading means in terms of heaven, hell, and the end of time.
Process:
 Fill out the readings.
 Listen to the homily while taking notes on the handout.
 Complete the reflection section on the back of this sheet.
Write the four readings (with their chapters and verses) for the Mass (found near the bottom of the web page) on
which the homily will concentrate.

 Caught at least 75% of the cues (15 distinct ideas): 5 pts.
 74-50% cues (14-10 distinct ideas): 3 pts.
 < 50 % cues (less than 10 distinct ideas) 1 pt.
