PASSIVE VOICE “I sent her a present” (Active voice)


WHAT IS VOICE? “She was sent a present”
VOICE IS the grammatical relation (active or passive) of the grammatical “A present was sent to her”
subject of a verb to the action that the verb denotes.
WHAT IS PASSIVE VOICE? REPORTING VERBS 8PERSONAL AND IMPERSONAL CONSTRUCTION)
The passive voice is used to indicate that the grammatical subject of the verb We often use reporting verbs with impersonal passive constructions.
is the recipient (not the source) of the action denoted by the verb. “Some people think he stole the money” (Active)
There are two basic constructions:
WHEN DO WE USE PASSIVE VOICE? a. It + passive verb+ that

Verbs that have two objects in the active usually have two passive forms.
