corrosivum (கரைத்துச் சிதைக்க வல்ல) (as synonimous
(ஒரே பொருள் உடைய) Terms (விதிமுறை) of the
Alkahest (எல்லாவகைப்பொருட்களையும்
கரைக்கக்கூடியதென்று பொன்மாற்றுச்சித்தர் கருதிய
நீர்மம் 'அரச நீர்மம், இரசவாதியால் கூறப்படும்
அனைத்துப் பிணி நீக்கும் மருந்து) with some men) to
which I added the Aqua (நீர்மம்) or Oleum Salis
(எண்ணெய் உப்பு), Aqua (நீர்மம்) Comedens (சாப்பிட),
Aqua Regis (நீர் ராஜா), Circulatum majus (பரப்பு மேலும்),
and one after another being perswaded (வற்புறுத்தினார்)
that some one only universal (உலகளாவிய) Menstruum
(கரைப்பான்) was intended (நோக்கம்) by all, that I might
(வலிமை) find the Method of preparing this Liquor (மது)
in all places compared (ஒப்பிடு) together, which I could not
in each severally (தனித்தனியாக); but at length despairing
(நம்பிக்கையிழப்பிற்கு), and being overcome by the
manifold (பன்மடங்கு) and almost incredible
(நம்பமுடியாத), yet (இன்னும்) unsuccessful pains I took,
I resolved (தீர்க்கப்பட) to decline (சரிவு) Chymy
(வேதியல்) and Medicine, as Arts too deep for my
understanding When behold (பார்)! on a sudden the Eyes of
my Mind were opened, and I saw all these things differ, not
in name only, but also in matter, preparation and use; so
instead (பதிலாக) of one Liquor (மது) Alkahest
(எல்லாவகைப்பொருட்களையும்
கரைக்கக்கூடியதென்று பொன்மாற்றுச்சித்தர் கருதிய
நீர்மம் 'அரச நீர்மம், இரசவாதியால் கூறப்படும்
அனைத்துப் பிணி நீக்கும் மருந்து), which I sought
(முயன்று) for, I found in Paracelsus many Menstruums
(திராவகம்), with the several Uses of them all in Medicine;
now knew I how to prepare, and according to Paracelsus;
distinguish things into Essences, Magisteries (any
substance capable of healing), Astrums (வான் மருந்து),
Arcanums (வான் மருந்து), and those which he calls the
less Medicines, so that which was in Paracelsus most
difficult to be understood by others, became more clear to
me than any thing else; and so I obtained the End sooner
than the Beginning: Yet (ஆயினும்) the Joy from thence
(அங்கேயிருந்து) accrewing (சேர்ந்த), fell shorter than
expectation (எதிர்பார்த்து இருத்தல்); for having tried
several Experiments in vain (வணான),
ீ I came to
understand that these Menstruums (திராவகம்) of
Paracelsus contained something abstruse (எளிதில் புரிந்து
கொள்ள முடியாத) and unknown, to be understood, not
in the least (குறைந்தது) according to the Letter:
whereupon (அதன் பிறகு), examining (தேர்வு செய்,
ஆய்வு) them more exactly and comparing their Qualities
with the Nature of the Liquor Alkahest (கரைப்பான்), I
found a vast (பரந்த) difference between it and them; for it
is said, There is one Liquor Alkahest (கரைப்பான்), and
that universal; but many are the Menstruums (திராவகம்)
of Paracelsus, these indestructible (அழிக்கமுடியாத),
these destructible (அழிக்கத்தக்க); these not mixing with
Bodies, these abiding (நிரந்தரமான, இணக்கமான) with
them; that preserves (பதப்படுத்தப்பட்ட) the Virtues
(நன்மை) of things, these alter (மாற்று) them; that
ascends (மேலேறி) after the Essences of things in
destillation (வடித்தல்), these before their dissolutions
(கரைத்தல்), etc.
