Aoife Fullerton - Unit 1 – 3 Pre-Production Techniques for the Creative Media Industries

Performance Review – UNIT 31 (LINKED TO UNIT 1)

This document should be completed at the end of the project. This allows students to
record the reflection and evaluation of their own learning through the project and to
consider their individual performance.

Name: Aoife Fullerton

Project title: Pre-Production Bio Sketch/ Social Action/ Brexit/ Churches Trust/ Music
Video.

• What was the project supposed to accomplish?

Pre-Production of the projects above was to accomplish I very detailed

explanation on what the projects were about. An accomplished the planning,
development and exaction of my ideas on my Bio Sketch, Social Action, Brexit,
Churches Trust and Music Video. I done this by making mind maps, research,
storyboards, filming timetables, scripts and equipment lists. I also have legacies
from newspaper article and comment from the public.

• Did the project succeed in its aims? How do you know? Specifically, please
outline any evaluation and assessment undertaken.

I feel as if the projects have succeeded in its aims as I followed the assessment
brief and used a lot of detail in my work. In addiction my social action has over
2083 views on YouTube alone and a lot of stare on Facebook along with a
newspaper article wrote about it. Also, my music video has been entered into a
competition.

• What things do you think worked well and why? Evaluate all aspects of the
project (e.g. initial inception, project activities and project outcomes) from a
range of perspectives.

I think my projects went well for the most of it. My social action had good
success and the client S.T.E.P.S was very pleased with it. The music video was
hard to film and plan, but I got there, and it worked well and came out what I
imagined it to look like in my head when I was think of its outcome. I feel my
research on St. Columba was very detailed. I used a booked about him and the

internet to find out about this family tree and the history of his family and him.
I believe doing this research on St Columba will help me to be aware on what
the topic is about. In my Bio Sketch the Script was easy as I was talking about
myself. Therefore, filming went a lot more smoother as I was more aware of the
content I was filming compare too the Social Action were I was filming other
people and was less informed on that they were going to say on camera.

• What problems emerged during the project and how were they tackled? Was
there timely identification of issues and resolution during the project
process?

When recording my Social Action the dance studio had a mirror on the whole
back wall. I resolved the situation by planning what angles I was going to film at
and then a done multiple take and edited them so you couldn’t see the camera
in the mirror. S.T.E.P.S was beside a main road and there was a lot of noise from
cars passing along with the really bad lighting they had, so when editing I put
background music in the drain the noise from the cars out. I also changed to the
recording to B&W instead of colour so you could see how bad the lighting was,
this actually added to the emotional effect of the documentary. On the Brexit
project I wasn’t really experienced in my camera or editing skills so I couldn’t
help a lot with the filming but I was useful in different ways I acted in it, was a
runner and edited the trailer with help from a student.

• What did you learn from undertaking the project?

From all my project I learned how to film and edit mostly as I had no experience
before. My friend showed me how it set up the equipment for filming example a
Tolley, he helped me learn how to edit both my photos and the footage I filmed.
I also learned the different roles when it comes to filing something for example
a director and a sound person, along with the amount of planning that goes
into something before you can actually film it.

• How would you rate your performance as project manager?

I think my performance was overall good on my projects as I executed them to a

good standard. I also planned all my projects with very precise detail.

• What strengths and weaknesses of your performance did you identify?

I think my strengths in all my projects is probably the planning as it is very

detailed. I also feel when I learned from doing my Bio Sketch my camera skills
got a lot better and I would now count them as one of my strengths. I feel my
weakness is that I need to speak up and be clearer when directing projects. I
also could develop my editing and sound skills further.

• How will this inform and support your continuous professional development?

I feel this would inform and support a professional development as I will work
harder to prefect my weaknesses and improve on my strengths further. Also
improving and practice my strengths and weaknesses will build my confidence
to speak out more as I will have more confidence in my skills, knowledge of the
technology used and my ideas.

• What has changed since the first submission of this project?

I have gained more knowledge and I know what is expected from my work and
the high quality it should be at. I can now apply from correction from my past
projects into my further ones to better myself and my work. This will hopefully
increase my grades and the quality of the projects to come.
