Dear class,

By now I hope you're already done reading the reading materials for
the Literature Review. These materials provide you a fundamental
understanding of what Literature Review and its role to any study.

To those who already submitted their proposed topic, note that what
you have given may further be changed or revised based on the
literature review that you will work on this week.  The literature
review may give you further ideas or clarity on what you want to do for
your paper.

Below are additional pieces of information about the Literature

Review:

What is a Literature Review or Review of Related Literature (RRL)?

This is an integrated analysis and synthesis of scholarly articles

related to the topic or issues of your study. The purpose of writing a
literature review is to let your reader have a full understanding of your
study.

What to do before writing the RRL?

1. Identify the issue to be discussed in the paper
2. Determine the problem statement/research questions
3. Determine the scope and delimitation
4. Examine the findings of other studies
5. Collect the materials from credible sources
6. Categorize the information gathered

Two Structures of RRL

1. Chronological - Arranged in sequence based on time
2. Thematic - Arranged topically, or in categories in relation to the
study
- Start with a broad topic
- Gather information indirectly connected to the study
- Gather information directly connected to the study
- Create a synthesis of all information gathered

Synthesis of the Literature Review

- To put together multiple ideas from different sources to understand
the role of each part or element of the paper.
For more information, you may click the below inkHow to Write a

Literature Review (Links to an external site.)

For your 2nd assignment, I want you to:

1. Search at least 20 studies/literature (local or international) during

the last 5 years that are directly or indirectly related to your proposed
topic. List them in an MS Word Document (Arial 11) with the following:

- Title

- Authors

- Date

- Abstract

Given that you cannot visit the school library, you may use online
search in finding related studies. You can use Google Scholar as
well (https://scholar.google.com/) (Links to an external site.)

2. Create a Literature Map. A Literature Map (Cresswell, 2011) is a

two-dimensional diagrammatic representation of information where
links are made between concepts by drawing arrows (which could be
annotated to define the nature of these links). Constructing a literature
map helps you to:

1. To develop your understanding of the key issues and research

findings in the literature

2. To organize ideas in your mind

3. To see more clearly how different research studies relate to one

another and to group those with similar findings.

Click the below link for a discussion on Literature Mapping:

You may create the Literature Map using MS Powerpoint and save it as
a PDF. The Literature Map should show the titles of the studies
(including authors and dates) as well as the main topics or themes
related to your proposed topic

Please advise if you have further questions on the above.

Thanks.
