Don’t use would in the if clause.

conditions in relation to the past.

(He’s not a good student. He didn’t study for


the test yesterday)

SIMPLE PAST OR WER+ WOULD HAVE + PAST
PARTICIPLE
► If she were for the interview, she would have told
us the truth.
► If I spoke Russian, we might have understood the
guide.

► WATCH OUT
Don’t use would have in the if clause.
