Japan exports to India-

Japanese Exports to India is as old as post world war II era. The trade
relations between India and Japan flourished after the establishment
of diplomatic ties, especially after the World War II. Japan
resurrected form the debacle of the World War II loss with the help
of India's iron ore export. Japan reciprocated India by providing yen
loans to India in 1958, first of its type, by Japanese government. And
as a matter of fact since then, Japan is India's largest aid donor. The
tradition and social values of India and Japan are similar and to
commemorate the long and good friendship between India and
Japan, the government of both the countries have marked the Year
2007 as India and Japan Friendship year.
Japanese Exports to India include major commodities, like
• Heavy machines,
• Electronic gadgets,
• Plastic,
• Toys,
• Gaming systems,
• Pharmaceutical products,
• Biotechnological products,
• Transport equipments(ships, boats),
• Rubber
• Chemical elements
• Coal

Current scenario of Exports to India-

Trade with Japan as a proportion of India's global trade had been
declining. The FDI inflows into India from Japan had remained low for
a long time. The share of India in Japanese global trade and FDI
outflows had been almost insignificant. There has been a positive
shift in recent years with respect to India's imports from Japan and
Japanese FDI outflows to India. However, there is still a lack of
momentum in India's exports and FDI outflows to Japan. The
implementation of the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic
Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is expected to boost trade and
investment between the two countries. The knowledge and
information gap between the two countries seems being bridged
finally.
Exports to India in Japan decreased to 97718 JPY Million in August
from 106529 JPY Million in July of 2019. Exports to India in Japan
averaged 86374.89 JPY Million from 2014 until 2019, reaching an all
time high of 124724 JPY Million in March of 2019 and a record low of
62993 JPY Million in May of 2016.

Here, we take a look at Japan’s major exports to India in recent

years.
Gear boxes formed the biggest imported item from Japan in FY17,
valued at $243 million, doubling in three years.
But the imported product that raised eyebrows was polyvinyl
chloride, or PVC. PVC is a well-known common polymer used in
variety of applications ranging from pipes, cables, greenhouses,
construction activities, etc. Due to poor capacity addition in terms of
domestic production in the last 15 years, India’s reliance on imports
has increased, and that on Japanese imports, more so.
PVC manufacturing is a difficult process with regard to handling raw
material. But its consumption across a wide array of industries
warrants acceleration in domestic production on urgent basis.
