GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
After the sprinkling, the Priest returns to the chair where, omitting the Creed, he directs the
Universal Prayer: He introduces this using the following words:
The light of the risen Christ shines forth from the Easter Candle.
May the flame of faith in our hearts
inspire us as we offer to God our own petitions
as well as the needs of the entire world.
Full of confidence, we pray:
OMNIPOTENT FATHER,
HEAR AND GRANT OUR PETITIONS.
Father, your Son Jesus Christ has redeemed humanity with his own
blood. Grant that our civil leaders, as well as all of us, may recover a deep
respect and reverence for all human life. R.
Father, the light of the Resurrection is the beacon showing the glory of
Christ’s triumph over sin and death. May this light defeat all evil, lies,
and fake news that pervade our societies today. We pray. R.
Father, we entrust to your care the sick, the dying, the poor, and all
vulnerable peoples, especially in this time of the pandemic. May they
realize that in the same way they shared in the sufferings of your Son
Jesus, they will also share in the joy of his Resurrection. We pray. R.
Father, in baptism you have given all of us, Christians, new life. Grant
that all of us may draw joyfully from the fount of salvation and thus
nourish our souls. We pray. R.
16
Father, Jesus descended into hell to liberate all those who have died and to
bring them in to heaven. Have mercy on all of the faithful departed,
especially our departed family, friends, relatives, and those who have died
due to COVID-19; and bestow on them the glory of your company in
heaven. We pray. R.
Presider:
F ather,
receive the prayer of all of us gathered today,
full of hope in the glorious victory of Christ.
Hear and grant our petitions
through the merits of your risen Son,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
R. Amen.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
26
THE SIGN OF PEACE
Then the Celebrant, with hands extended, says aloud:
In celebrations where there is no assisting minister, the givng of peace is to be omitted. However,
if the celebration is broadcast, this is to be retained.
The guidelines in CBCP Circular No. 20-05 on the holding and/or shaking of hands are to be
observed in celebrations with assisting ministers.
27
BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND AGNUS DEI
The Celebrant takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice, saying
quietly:
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the final time,
however, is grant us peace said.
PRIVATE PREPARATION
The Celebrant, with hands joined, says quietly:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world;
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
The Celebrant genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten
or above the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
28
SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
Before he distributes Holy Communion to those who assisted him, he invites the faithful who has been
following the celebration in their homes to a spiritual communion. He briefly addresses them and
then guides them to reciting the following prayer:
I prostrate myself at your feet, O my Jesus,
and I offer you the repentance of my contrite heart,
which abases itself in its nothingness in Your Holy Presence.
I adore you in the Sacrament of Your Love;
I desire to receive You in the poor abode that my heart offers You.
While waiting for the happiness of a Sacramental Communion,
I want to possess You in spirit.
Come to me, O my Jesus,
that I may come to You.
May Your Love inflame my whole being,
in life and in death.
I believe in You, I hope in You,
I love You. Amen.
COMMUNION
When the distribution of Communion is over, the Celebrant, a Deacon or an acolyte purifies the paten
over the chalice and also the chalice itself. While he carries out the purification, the priest says
quietly:
What has passed our lips as food, O Lord,
may we possess in purity of heart,
that what has been given to us in time
may be our healing for eternity.
Then the Celebrant may return to the chair. If appropriate, a sacred silence may be observed for a
while, or a psalm or other canticle of praise or a hymn may be sung.
29
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Standing at the altar or at the chair and facing the people, with hands joined, the Celebrant says:
Let us pray.
All pray in silence with the Celebrant for a while, unless silence has just been observed. Then the
Celebrant, with hands extended, says the Prayer after Communion:
30
ORATIO IMPERATA
God our Father,
we come to You in our need
to ask Your protection against the COVID-19,
which has disturbed and even claimed lives.
We pray that You guide the people
tasked to find cures for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted.
May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us the grace in this trying time
to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus
and to save us from our fears.
Grant all these through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
