UNIVERSITEIT VAN PRETORIA UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA YUNIBESITHI YA PRETORIA QVww Denklelers * Leading Minds + Dikgopolo t8a Dihlalefi Unit cost summary for water supply systems Department of Civil Engineering Water Division Background The following cost functions relates to an investigation which was done by Mr Mike van Breda and Prof SJ van Vuuren during 1995. The material was originally part of the Course: SHW 781 - Special Features of Pumping Station Design. Market trends, input costs, International Competitors and Client's preferences could have bearing on the cost of these component listed below. Base year for the Cost relationships ‘The unit cost below is based on available information at January 1995 and is reflected in SA in Rand, excluding VAT; P+G, contingencies and Engineering fees. It can hence be assumed that these costs are for Base Year: 1995 and should therefor be escalated. Unit costs included in this document ‘The following elements are covered in this document: Electrical motors for pump stations; Reference to pump costs; Valves; and Pipelines. Cost for Electrical Motors in Pump Stations ‘The proposed unit cost relates to the following assumptions: + Prices are for ac, 4 pole, 3 phase, 50 Hz, squirrel cage, TEFC motors, up to 750 kW. 800 kW and above motors CACA,; Above 500 use 3,3 kV; 700 kW to 2000 kW, 3,3 kV; Above 2000 kW, 6,6 kV recommended; For vertical motors add 5,5%; For 2 pole and 6 pole motors add 28%; For 8 pole motors add 50%; For 10 pole motors add 75%; For 12 pole motors add 100%; and 2800 KW and above bearings are sleeved and are force feed oil lubricated. Cost for fixed speed Electrical Motors Cost 10 to 120 kW = 265.kW (380 Volt) Cost 150 to 1500 kW = B450.KW"* Cost 1500 to 1700 kW = 9010.Kw"** (3.3 kV) Cost 1700 to 2700 kW = 10,30.kW"** (6.6 kv) Cost 2800 to 6000 kW = 6950.kWos® (6,6 kV) Cost 7000 to 16000 kw = 9570.kw* (11kv) Cost for variable speed drives and Electrical Motors (pulse width modulated inverters frequency variation) Cost 20 to 800 kW 7878.kWw* Cost 800 to 2500 kW 3,045x10% KW Cost of Electrical equipment and units 20 KW to 600 kW (excl. Transformer etc.) Cost = 140.KW'e? Note: kW for 2 and 3 = size per motor installed. Cost for Pumps It is difficult to develop a meaningful model for calculating pump prices. It is therefore recommended that once the pump duty point has been determined that prices, characteristic curves, dimensions, etc., are obtained from suppliers.
