SEMINAR ON PERSONALITY
DEVELOPMENT
The seminar was conducted by Roman Technologies in
collaboration with department of Civil Engineering, SSM
College of Engineering on 26/11/18 about how
important soft skills are in today’s demanding and
competitive world, and how a person can groom
him/herself to have a lasting impression. Emphasis was
laid on how a person’s personality can help him reach
heights of success. There were some interesting P.D
games played as well as a skit by Rooman students with
students of civil engineering department. Following
members from Rooman technologies were present.

PRACTICAL TRAINING
In order to acquaint the Students with the Knowledge of
Field work, a Practical Training Tour to NITTTR
Chandigarh was organized by the Civil Engineering
Department. The tour was held from 19th – 28th January
under the Coordination of Er. Ubaid Farooq and Er.
Masroor Ahmad in which the students of B.E 5th
semester participated. During the Tour, the Students
visited the highly Sophisticated labs of NITTTR, visited
the various construction sites in Chandigarh and Mohali
area and participated in one day Seminar on “An
Introduction to Various Softwares used in Civil
Engineering”.

GUEST LECTURES
Various Guest lectures were held by civil engineering
department during these months. The guest Faculties
called for these lectures are highly qualified, well
trained and possess immense field experience. The
guest lecture on structural steel design for B E 7 th
semester was held on 20/12/2018 by Er. Mudasir
Ahmad, A.E. PMGSY Ganderbal. The students got
nourished with the knowledge of various elements of
structural steel in the field, their uses and various
steel joints used in the field. Another guest lecture on
24/12/2018 was conducted by Er. Irfan Reshi, Nodal
officer PMGSY on mobile data collection uses in civil
Engineering. He also assisted the students of 7th
semester in choosing their major projects.

DEBATE ON SUBSTANCE ABSUSE AMONG
YOUNG ADULTS
A Seminar / Debate was organized by the Civil
Engineering on 30/11/18 in which various participants
spoke on the topic of “Substance abuse among Young
Adults”. Prominent Social workers of the valley
presented their most worthy views on the topic and
spoke on the various aspects of the topic. This was
followed by a debate on the topic presented by the
Students of the SSM College of Engineering. Students
were made aware of the various methods employed by
some antisocial elements to trap young adults. Various
dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Muzaffar
Ahmad Khan, Prof. N A Shah, Principal SSM college of
Engineering, Er. S S A Rufai, Principal Polytechnic block
of SSM College, Er. Shabina Masoodi, HOD Civil.

FIELD VISIT
BE 8th Semester students were taken to a Bridge site at
Pattan Baramulla for 1 day field visit on 24 December
2018. The students were accompanied by Er. Tahir
Hassan and Er. Shafaqat Bhat. The students got aware of
the various types of bridges used in Kashmir Valley. They
got the Knowledge of prerequisites of constructing a
bridge and the process of designing and construction.
The students were guided at the site by Er. Tehseen
Nisar, Junior Engineer R&B Kashmir, who is also an
alumnus of SSM College of Engineering.

SURVEY CAMP AT PATNITOP
A Survey camp was organised by civil engineering
department at Patnitop for BE 5th semester as well as NEWSLETTER
for Diploma 5th semester under the guidance of Er.
Mohi ud din R and Er. Showkat Bashir. For BE 5th sem February- 2019
it was held between 08/09/18 to 19/09/19 while as
for Diploma 5th sem it was held between 28/10/18 to
08/11/18. ENDEAVOUR BY HOD
The main aim of our department is
to provide quality education. To
enhance the practical skills, our
department organises various
field/site visits, guest lectures,
seminars, model exhibitions,
camps etc. It also presents the
extracurricular activities carried
out by the Department from time to time. All these
activities have been showcased through this
newsletter. I am highly thankful to our staff and faculty
members for putting their brilliant efforts in compiling
the newsletter.
