Title of project: Does the time taken for ice to melt faster when using a
Styrofoam cup, Paper cup, or plastic cups.

Teacher name: Hayyim Torres

Introduction: Water is a chemical reaction between two hydrogen molecules
and one oxygen molecules react and create product water (H2O).water is use in

many ways: Drinking, bathing, ice, ETC. Ice, is one of the uses that have caught

my attention. Ice is the precipitation of water, the change of liquid molecules to

solid. Ice is used in many settings: Parties, small gatherings, bars, Etc.…at all of

these events value the use of ice. The type of cup greatly affects the life of your ice

understanding how different materials act will make my decision an experiment

easier to choose my cup on what makes ice life longer.

Method of collecting data.
To carry out this experiment I will need to get: 1 Styrofoam cup, 1 paper cup, 1 plastic cup, all

cups of equal size if possible, 1 beaker and pieces of ice using a tray which will give u equal

sizes of ice and a fair an more accurate experiment for each trail. Measure the temperature of the

water and the measure the amount of water used in the experiment all must be of equal amount.

Pouring the ice cube in the cup and let it sit until all the ice has melted, using a timer to keep you

alert of your experiment when the ice has melted or the time has been met, record the time taken

for the trail. Carry out this experiment three times to obtain an accurate reading. While carrying

out this experiment, this experiment to determine which cup will keep the ice life longer?
Presentation of data collecting

Trail 1: Trail 2: Trail 3:

Styrofoam cup: 15mins 17mins 16mins

Plastic cup: 12min 12min.30sec 10mins

Paper cup 5min 6min 5min

Analysis of data

Three types of cups where used: Styrophoam, plastic, and paper. Three trails where taken,

Styrofoam cup took the longest to melt the ice at 20minutes. The paper shown different to the

results by the Styrofoam cup, most common number being 5min to melt the ice completely. The

plastic cups had a record of 12min.

Discussion

Insulation the temperature at which an object could keep. Paper, plastic and Styrofoam are

common materials used in containers holding cold beverages and keeping them cold. These

three cups where used to find out which one would melt the ice cubes faster and be the best

insulator. The cup witch melted the ice fastest was the plastic cup, and the one witch held the

ice longest was the Styrofoam cup.

Conclusion

In conclusion measuring the cup that has the lowest insulator rate was the plastic cups witch the
had took 5mins to melt. The paper cups was recorded.
