Standard 1

Content and Foundational Knowledge

Component 1.e: Describe and apply motor development theory and
principles related to fundamental motor skills, skillful movement,
physical activity and fitness for PreK-12 students.
Artifact: PED 201 Lab

Date: Spring 2019

Reflection: The artifact I chose for standard 1 is a lab which I completed during my

time in motor development. The lab was completed at an after-school program at

an elementary school in Homer, New York. This artifact relates to standard 1 in the

respect of balance. The lab was all about balance and assessing the balance

performance of students at the after-school program. It allowed for me to set-up an

assessment and watch the students while they performed the different balance tasks

they had to complete. This required me to have the content knowledge of a

fundamental motor skill in order to do this. In order to set up the balance task and

be able to properly assess the students on their performance, I have to have the

knowledge in order to do so. This artifact is important to my development as a

teacher because it allowed me to take my knowledge of the fundamental motor

skill and apply to a real-life situation in a school setting which is a way to practice

and learn to become a better teacher.
