February 24, 2020,

To whom it may concern,

I am an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at James Madison University, and I am writing to

inform you that Katelin Nolan would be a wonderful elementary school teacher. I have worked with
Katelin for the past two years while she took my ELED 433: Elementary Mathematics Methods I, ELED
632: Inquiry, and ELED 622: Inquiry Seminar Course; and throughout that time, she displayed a high
degree of integrity, responsibility, and ambition. Through these skills, I know that she would be a
wonderful teacher and a life long learner.

Katelin is an active learner in and out of the classroom. When I assigned homework, she would complete
the assignment by the next day. If she did not understand a question from class or homework, she would
promptly come to my office to get assistance. In class, she would ask informed questions that I believed
helped further the understanding of many of the other students.

I was also able to witness Katelin’s ability to effectively work with others through her course work, as
well as witnessing her ability to complete assignments effectively and on time. Katelin also showed her
dedication to furthering her understanding by going above and beyond in ELED 622 to learn how to best
help her students learn through her inquiry project.

Katelin would be a great asset to your school, and I believe she will be successful in any endeavor.
Therefore, I am happy to give my wholehearted endorsement.

Sincerely,

Amanda Sawyer, Ph.D.
