What you have to do

Bring the story of Word Mania to life and exercise your writing skills by writing
a descriptive narrative that continues this story:

The mischievous and scheming Pirate Penguins tried to make a

contraption to generate the biggest word ever created. Impatient, they
added an unpredictable booster potion to their invention, which made it
erupt letter tiles all over LiteracyPlanet. The dilemma gave the characters
in LiteracyPlanet an urgent mission; to find their favourite letters and
arrange them into words to feed Word Monster…

Your story should be about the characters going on a journey and no more
than 500 words. Include the key LiteracyPlanet Word Mania characters, Word
Monster and Bacon. Feel free to decorate your story using the images
attached.

Email stories to wmstory@literacyplanet.com with your name, year level and

school. Files should be no bigger than 5MB.

Each week two stories will be chosen as finalists, and shared on

LiteracyPlanet’s blog. At the end of the Word Mania competition a winning
story will be chosen and that student’s year level will receive $300 to spend
on books at Dymocks online store: www.dymocks.com.au..

PROFILES

Word Monster

Word Monster is a happy-go-lucky, young

monster that doesn’t speak BUT he loves eating
words and searches high and low on
LiteracyPlanet to find them. Although feed him
a misspelled word and he will burp it back at
you!

Word Monster is the last descendant of the

ancient dragon race. He is big and bouncy, with
endless energy, like an untrained puppy.

Bacon

Bacon has always dreamt of being a pirate and

makes up one third of the Pirate Penguin Gang
on LiteracyPlanet.

Bacon is the newest AND youngest member of

the Pirate Penguin Gang, so gets the worst jobs.
He is constantly bossed around by Pegs, the
Captain of the Pirate Penguins, and Canon, the
first mate and crazy inventor.

Bacon is always eager to help and be part of

any plan or mission. Like Word Monster, Bacon
doesn’t speak but instead of burping, he makes
small ‘quacking’ sounds.

 Sam the Stubmunk

Sam the Stubmunk is one member of a much

larger population of Stubmunks.

Stubmunks are industrious communal animals

who normally burrow and live underground.
They LOVE finding, sorting and filing words and
texts.

They are quiet, can run quite quickly but when

they get a fright, will curl up in a ball and roll
away at great speed.
