ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM

 Is a parallel learning system that provides a practical option to the existing formal
instructions. When one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools, ALS
is an ALTERNATE or SUBSTITUTE. It includes both non-formal and informal sources
of knowledge and skills.
 This program follows a uniform lesson modules for all academic subjects covering
science,mathematics,english,filipino,social studies and current events among others. The
delivery of instructions are provided by government-paid instructor s or by private non-
government organization.
 It only requires learners to attend learning session based on the agreed schedule between
the learners and the learning facilitators.

Two(2) LEVELS Of ALS:


 PRIMARY
 SECONDARY

Two(2) Different SCHEMATICS for conducting instructions:

(1) SCHOOL-BASED
 Instructions are conducted in school campuses.
(2) COMMUNITY-BASED
 Formal instructions are conducted in community halls or on private places.

Two(2) MAJORS PROGRAM that are being implemented by the Department of


Education through BALS:

(1). BASIC LITERACY PROGRAM(BLP)


 Is aimed at eradicating illiteracy among out of schools
youth and adults by developing basic literacy skills for reading,writing, and numeracy.

(2). ACCREDITATION OF EQUIVALENCY


 Is a program that aimed at providing an alternative pathway of learning for out of school
children,youth and adults who are basically literate but who have not complete the 12
years of Basic Education mandated by the Philippine Constitution.
