Introduction – Definition of social media

Point 1 – Social media

 Most common and important tool that people have to communicate with others is
technology with different social networks.
 Many people heavily criticized them overall and felt that they were simply passing
fads.
 With social media consuming our time so much, conversing with one another face to
face has suffered.
 Face to face discussions are the foundation of human communication; once
established, it allows us to build trust, clearly articulate our ideas and minimize
misunderstanding.
 However, for many of us, face to face conversational skills seems to be a dying art,
because it is replaced by text messaging, emails and social media.
 Human communication and interactions are shaped by available technologies.
 People find their lives so difficult without social media.

Point 2 – Face to face conversation is very important for two people communicate.

 Face to face conversation is more precise than non-verbal cues.

 Different gestures have different interpretations between different cultures.
o Even two people of the same culture, which can lead to miscommunication and
misunderstanding.
 Face to face conversation helps to build trust.
o Written communication cannot fully capture the true tone and meaning intended
by the sender.
o A punctuation mark wrongly placed can easily change the meaning of a
sentence.
 Face to face conversation can be more effective for those who may struggle with
written communication.
o Everyone has their own unique set of skills, and some people can express
clearer with face to face conversation.

Point 3 – Effects of conversational skills

  We can let social media enhance our conversation but not hinder it.
 Emoji, shortened words, abbreviations are making us lazy by stop using the correct
grammar and language.
o An emoji cannot replace a facial expression or tone of voice.
 There is a chance for misunderstanding or misinterpreting the messages through
social media.
o It is better to talk to them or meet them directly rather than spoiling relations.
 Children who grow up using social media will feel difficult to talk with others by face
to face.
 Body language delivers half of the message and only 10% is conveyed through
words.
o Even a handshake, pleasant smile add value to the conversation.
o Body language is an important form of communication but we can’t do it through
social media.

Point 4 – Solutions to solve the issue of social media kills conversational skills

 Parents should educate their children since they are still young.
o Parents should teach children about techniques of face to face conversation with
others.
 Teacher should teach students about the skills of face to face conservation.
 Government should conduct campaign for students to make them know the
importance of face to face conversation nowadays.
 People should limit time for social media themselves so wouldn't become addicted to
the social media.

Conclusion – Social media brings pros and cons for us.

 Social media kills conversational skills is the most serious issue that will affect
children life.
o Children nowadays only concentrated on social media.
 Social media really affect one a lot.
