MRR1 The Trials of The Rizal Law
MRR1 The Trials of The Rizal Law
A.Y. 2019-20
Metacognitive Reading Report # 1
I used to think
Nothing about the RA 1425. Because I haven’t heard about it since I’ve taken this
subject/course.
RA 1425 or the Rizal Law is an act to include in the curricula of all public and private
schools, colleges and universities courses in the life, works and writings of Jose Rizal,
particularly his novels: Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. [ CITATION Rep56 \l 1033 ] .
And that for this to happen, many trials have been conducted due to the opposition of the
Catholic Hierarchy. Even late Senator Jose P. Laurel sponsored the measure and this was to
mark the start of the long-drawn disputations, both enlightened and harsh, that would copy and
divide the nation for three tense weeks.
I used to think
All people know the story and works of Rizal. People who are the same age as my
parents. That they do not only know Rizal by being our national hero but, also a Filipino fighting
for his country in his own, patriotic and nationalistic way.

I now think
That they still have a lot to learn about Rizal. Not only what he did for his country, but
also how he lived up to be our national hero. That he is also a child, a sibling, a lover, and a
Filipino. Rizal’s life is a great story that all Filipinos should know. To better understand and
acknowledge not only his works but also his life as a Filipino.
C. Three Questions:
1. Upon the Rizal Law being proclaimed, how did the church reacted on it?
2. What are the post thoughts of the people specially students, for the life and works of Rizal
being added in their curriculum?
3. Are the students also happy to know and understand Rizal or they just didn’t have the choice
to only take the added subject?
