Residual base oil in Shipping

Flex-tank Solution
The problem

• After unloading base oil

form flex-tank ,there are
some residual oil that
cannot be pumped out.
• Several attempts had been
taken to reduce this
residual oil but the
environmental concerns (
leaking oil )prohibit their
implantation.
Recovery Device

This solution is
developed by
maintenance team with
help of unloading
workers.
The idea is to use the
forklift for fixing the flex-
tank end
And then lifting it to
concentrate the
residual oil at
connection end .
Connect the hose to
flex-tank and start the
receiving pump as
usual (284 Liter of B.S
150 was recovered in
trail usage of the
device )
Estimation of Benefit of Using this Device

• If we receive annually 10 million liter of base oils

( 1/3 B.S 150 , 1/3 SN 500, 1/3 SN 150 )
• Average flex-tank capacity is 22,550 liter
• Total number of flex-tank is 443
• The residual oil depend on base oil viscosity
• liner approximations of each base oil are assumed (More
viscous oil more residual oil in flex tank)
Estimation of Benefit of Using this Device

• Formula : Number of flex-tank * Specific gravity * Residual oil volume(liter)

* Cost of base oil(SDG).
• B.S 150 : (443/3*0.9*284*53.6)= 2,023,056.96 SDG .
• Formula : Number of flex-tank * Specific gravity *( SN 500 Visc./BS Visc.*
Residual oil volume(liter) * Cost of base oil(SDG).
• SN 500 : (443/3*0.88*(120/625)*284*72.06)=510,609.17 SDG.
• Formula : Number of flex-tank * Specific gravity *( SN 150 Visc./BS Visc.*
Residual oil volume(liter) * Cost of base oil(SDG).
• SN 150 : (443/3*0.87*(38/625)*284*43.1)=95,609.47 SDG.
• 0.9*284*53.6 = 13,700 bs 150
• 0.88*(120/625)*284*72.06= 3,500 sn 500
• 0.87*(38/625)*284*43.1=650 sn 150
Total Estimated Benefit

2,629,275.60 SDG
