II. Date and Venue : December 10, 2019

ICT High School

III. Participants : DRRM Coordinators

IV. Highlights : To provide insight on the relevance of DRRM for

today’s leaders, and to highlight the importance of
having the abilities, skills and mindset to lead in in
the integration of DRRM in the Curriculum

V. Insights:

The world is changing fast. Some changes we like, while others create fear and
anxiety. That is why as leaders and teachers, we need to seek help to understand and o
be guided about the calamities that we might experience.

Last December 10, 2019, we had our training about “DRRM CURRICULUM
INTEGRATION”. We started at exactly 8:30 in the morning. Sir Jeffreson David, our
Division DRRM coordinator said that disaster preparedness and management education
has been reinforced through integration into the school curriculum. Pupils and teachers
must be equipped with knowledge on mitigating and managing hazards and risks
brought by natural disaster like earthquake.

The first speaker discussed about the proper way of the executing the “Lockdown
Drill”. I noticed that all participants were interested at the discussion. During the
afternoon session, we had two demonstrators. The first demonstrator discussed on
how the elementary teachers can integrate DRRM in their subjects. While the second
demonstrator, discussed more on the HS and SHS subjects. After that, the certificates
were already awarded to us.

VI. Recommendations/Suggestions:

Different activities or references should be presented o learners and

teachers to have wider knowledge about the term DRRM integration in all subject areas.
Risk reduction can be achieved through proper education and dissemination in schools.
