at “THE GUJARAT SIDHEE CEMENT LIMITED” Under the subject of general
information.
The brand name of this industry is “SIDHEE” main objective of this unit is to supply of
Cement to all India and other countries.

History of Industry
In India, manufacturing of cement was first started in Madras in 1904.First three companies
were started in 1912-1913 and real beginning was started. When the plans started there were
21 factories with an annual capacity of 328 million tons. After 1949 the cement industry had a
complete interference of govt. the production, distribution and price of cement and this
hampered the growth of industry. It was only in 1977 that govt. announces 12% post tax
return on net worth, which was fair enough, and retention price would be fixed to ensure it.
The real impetus was provided when partial decontrol was announced in 1982. Through this
policy all existing cement industry units were required to give up 66.67% of their installed
capacity as levy at controlled price. The most important objective of decontrol was to
eliminate black-marketing and bring down the price in the free market. It was in follow
through that the industry was fully controlled in 1989. In the last decade of 90s cement
capacity increased by more than twice. The industry was de-licensed in 1991, which
augmented its production in the very first year

SALIENT FEATURES
Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited was originally set up as a joint venture between the Gujarat
Investment Corporation and The Mehta Group. G.S.C.L. plant is situated at Sidheegram,
Taluka:sutrapada, District: Junagadh, Gujarat which is about 35 kilometers away from
Veraval city.
G.S.C.L. plant uses the latest Dry Process pre-calcinations technology compare to
international standards. The state-of-the art plant makes use of machinery which is sourced
from reputed international companies. The plant, operating over 100% capacity, is also one of
India’s cost effective cement producers.
Because of its proximity to probandar and pipavav ports, it has competition access to the large
export markets in the Middle East countries, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh by the economical sea
route.
G.S.C.L has employees comprising of skilled and unskilled employees. The company
conducted regular HRD programmers for the development of manager technical and
marketing skills for its employees. In addition surveys are conducted for identifying
employees potential and willingness undertake challenging responsibilities.

range includes Ordinary Portland (OPC) 53 Grade and 43 Grade. Pozzolana Portland cement

MARKET :
There is an immense market for the products in India as well as in abroad. G.S.C.L. is one of
the leading exporter of these products. In addition to this, we are also on the supplier list of
Sardar Sarover, Narmada dam and other prestigious projects.
The plant employs the largest state of art pollution equipments like ESPS, bag filters and

Gujarat Sidhee Cement Ltd. (G.S.C.L.) situated at Morasa near the Veraval in Gujarat is one
of the most modern Cement plant in the country. A part from the world wide Mehta Group.
“GUJARAT SIDHEE CEMENT LTD.” is one of the largest single point cement plant built
with state of art technology from F.L. Smith of Denmark. The world’s largest manufacture of
cement machinery. The plant is fully computerized and is based on fuzzy logic system. M/s.
F.L. Smith Co. of Denmark is also equity holders in the company.
The “GUJARAT SIDHEE CEMENT LTD.” was established in 29th November, 1987 that
time it was known as “CEMENT CORPORATION OF GUJARAT LTD.” was a joint sector
company.
C.C.G.L. was a pioneer unit of the G.S.C.L. this company has got a corporation certificate in
1973, but the regular production started in 1987. In the plant total investment 320 crores.
At the initial stage of establishment this company was under loss because of some technical
problems in 1992. MEHTA GROUP took the charge of this company and bonafied the new
name was “GUJARAT SIDHEE CEMENT LTD.” Before 1992 the company was registered
in BIFR. This company had taken loan from G.I.D.C., I.C.I.C.I. and therefore it was semi
govt. sector. But now a day’s company has Govt. “ISO-9002” certificate.

► WHAT IS CEMENT ?
Cement is any substance, which can join or two or more substance together to from a united
mass. Cement as used in construction industries in a fine powder which when mixed with
water and allowed to set and harden can join different components or members to give a
mechanically strong structure.
Cement was discovered by Joseph aspalin of England some 100 year ago and named it
Portland cement
► PORTLAND CEMENT
It is a mixiture of limestone and clay matter the mixture is burned at a very high temperature.
Cooling the resultant product forms the “clinker and grinding the same to an impalpable
powder gives Portland cement. Essential constituents of Portland cements are- lime, silica
alumina and iron oxide. Some gypsum is added during composition to impart the desired
property of a particular type
2. PPC (Portland Pozzolona Cement) - - - Pozzolonanas are clay matter either natural or
synthetic which when grinded with clinker and mixed water produces cementanious
compounds.

►TYPES OF PROCESSES
● WET PROCESS
In wet process the raw materials are grinded with the addition of sufficient water so that the
resultant slurry contains 30-40% water, which is fed to the burning equipment. The raw mix
grinding equipments for wet process is necessarily a little different from that used in dry and
semi-dry process, but the crushing equipment are same. The kiln gas temperature is normally
below 200’C. dust by ESP. fabric filters are not used in wet process. Kiln as the dew points of
gas is quite high, which may lead to condensation of gas the collector, thus causing clogging
of bags.
● SEMI-DRY PROCESS
In semi-dry process the raw materials are grinded in the the dry state and the raw meal is
converted into modules by addition of 10-22& water and then fed to the burning equipment.
The gas outlet condition are suitable for the installation of ESP. dust emission from the semi-
dry process kiln is less than from and process kiln, as granules are fed to the kiln. Gas
temperature 100-150’c and dew point is also comparatively high around 60’c. filters are not
used as dust collector, for de-dusting the semi-dry process as it causes problem of clogging of
bags.
● DRY PROCESS
In dry process, the raw materials are grinded in dry state and grinded raw meal is fed directly
to the burning equipment. The temperature of the exit gas from suspension pre-heater is about
330-360’c. dust concentration in the exhaust gases leaving kiln is generally 50-57 gm/nm3.
Resistively level of the dust is also very high. Multi cyclones are used in some cases as a dust
collector but this dust collector dose not achieves prescribed emission limited. Outlet gases
from suspension pre-heater kiln are at high temperatures (360-360’c) and therefore needs

cooling prior to passing through any dust collector. When kiln gases are used for drying raw
material in the raw mill grinding station, cooling and of the gases result in the idle operation
condition for ESP. The amount of water required for the conditioning tower is about
150gm/kg. Water evaporation rate is generally 22kg/hr-m3at the inlet gas temperature of
350’c and 30kg/hr-m3 when the gas inlet temperature is about 400’c.

PROCESS :
The process of clinker\ cement production at Gujarat sidhee cement Ltd. sidheegram, can be
briefly described as follows.
MINING :
The mining of the limestone is done by CAD – computer aided mining development from the
very rich captive mines which has storage of limestone to sustain the plant for over 70 years.
In these captive mines, almost all the grades of limestone is available and a very little quantity
of additive is to obtained from outside. Proposals for changeover to the surface mining
technology are under consideration and would be soon implemented.
The mined limestone is hauled through dumpers to a rotary hammer – impact type crusher
which crushes the limestone to a size of 80% up to -75mm size. Additive material is added to
the crushed limestone through an additive hopper which bypasses the crusher. The material is
passed on to the stacker via belt conveyors which stock the material in longitudinal layers.
The stacked material is lifted by the reclaimer which reclaims it by cutting transversely the
longitudinal stocked layers ensuring perfect blending and homogenizing.

The buffer stock of reclaimed material is store in the storage silos at the raw mill hoppers
along with the additive material in a different silo. The desired material is drawn through the
feeders and is fed to the vertical roller mill through air locking feeder. The vertical mill
consists of a rotating table upon which 3 rotating are hydraulically pressed. The material is
dried. Ground and transported by the hot kiln exit gases. The size of the pulverized material is
controlled by a static separator, which separates the oversized grits and sends it back on the
table for further grinding. The pulverized material is transported to the C.F. silo via energy
efficient bucket elevators.
The pulverized material is stored and blending and in the controlled flow silo. The blending
action is achieved by extracting the material from 7 outlets at a different rate. The extracted
material is conveyed to a weighing bin where it is further blended material is fed to the
preheated via bucket elevator.
The kiln feed from the silo is fed into both the string of preheater. approximately 40% of the
feed is given to the preheater string where it get preheated by the hot kiln exit gases and gets
clinker up to 30% approximately. The balance 60% feed is fed to the calcined feed from the
preheater string is also added to the calciner. Here, about 90% calcinations is achieved. This
90% calcined feed is transferred to the kiln for the remaining 10% calcinations and sintering
where the flux materials and silica melt and react with lime to from for major clinker
constituents. This is achieved by firing pulverized coal in the rotary kiln.

The clinker coming out of the rotary kiln is at a temperature of 1300-1400ċ and hence cooling
of the same is required. This is achieved by pumping atmospheric air in the reciprocating
grate cooler by 9 nos. centrifugal fans. The clinker gets cooled and the gets heated up which is
used as secondary and tertiary air in kiln and proclaimed is respectively, and the excess air is
vented out at a lover temperature. The recuperation of the heat ion the cooler is in the vicinity
of 65-70%.
The clinker, which is cooled to 100ċ -50ċ is stored in silo, which has a capacity of 40000
M.T. the clinker is transported to the silo by deep bucket conveyors. The silo for clinker is
salient feature of the plant, as the clinker dose not gets weathered. Another reserve silo of
2000 M.T. capacitive is provide to store specified products. The clinker from the clinker silo
is transported to clinker silos of the cement mils for grinding.
CEMENT MILLS:
The clinker is ground along with gypsum in the highly efficient combatant mills. The cement
mills are two compartment tube mills. In the first compartment, the grinding is done by
impact with balls and in the second compartment it is done by attrition with small grinding
media cylinders called cylpebs. The mill is swept with air, which transports the materials
through the mill. The cement is pumped to the cement silos the help of air-lifts. There are four
silos for cements of 5000 M.T. capacity each for storing different grade of cement.
PACKING PLANT:
The packing is done by automatic packers which have a capacity of 90 TPH each. There is
total Nos. of rotary packers. The packed bags each weighing 50 Kgs. Are directly loaded into
the trucks by belt conveyors and auto loaders.

Raw coal is also stacked and reclaimed by a stacker and reclaimer hence ensuring a perfectly
blended raw coal. This is unique feature of the plant. The raw coal is pulverized in a vertical
roller mill, which is similar to that for the limestone.
CONTROL SYSTEM:
The plant is centrally controlled except for the packing plant through distributed control
system of opto22 USA supplied by M/s. Ramco systems, Chennai. The kiln cooler operation
is controlled by FUZZY LOGIC.
QUALITY CONTROL:
The quality control is achieved whit the help of a x-ray analyzer which gives accurate and fast
result. However, a fully equipped chemical and physical laboratory is also available where
continuous testing activity of raw materials &end product are carried out.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT:
Gujarat sidhee cement limited is accredited to ISO 14001: 2000 for quality management
system by RwTUV, Germany
ENVIROMENT MANAGEMENT:
Gujarat sidhee cement limited is accredited to ISO14001: 2004 for environment management
system by rwTUV, Germany.

The plant produces Portland cement. 43- Grade Ordinary Portland cement. Fly ash based
Portland Pozzolona Cement and SRC cement.

conditions the gases in the down comer duct itself rather than the gas conditioning tower in a
conventional way.

Capital budgeting is a process of making decision regarding long-term investment in fixed assets.
It is a long range planning to employ the available capital for the purpose of maximizing the long-

The key function of financial management is the selection of the most profitable assortment of
capital investment & it is the most important area of decision making of the financial manager
because any action taken by manager in this area affect the working capital & the profitability of

In SCL capital budget is prepared before two months in advance. All the head of department fill
their requirements for the department in the form & send it to the controller of department.
The requirement from every department are scrutinized by the controller of department and a
discussion is held with DGM to fill up the data in the form which contains budgets & its
particulars budget amount & justification and it is sent to the board of directors. Thus, the whole
years capital budgeting is determined in advance & it is divided over for fixed time that is months
and accordingly the required item is provided to every department at a fixed time.
