FAMILY PRAYER SERVICE AT HOME

DURING THE SUSPENSION OF THE

CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARIST (MASS)

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

Entrance Antiphon
My eyes are always on the Lord,
for he rescues my feet from the snare.
Turn to me and have mercy on me,
for I am alone and poor.

Greeting:
Today, we celebrate this Liturgy of the Word as a family. In this penitential season of Lent, we think of
our brothers and sisters all over the world who suffer the effect of Corona Virus, those are sick and
those who live in fear and anxiety. We pray for the protection of each and every one of us.

Leader: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Leader: May the grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ be with us.

All: Blessed be God.

Penitential Rite

Leader: Jesus is the fountain of living water which gives life to those who
believe in him. The Samaritan woman in the Gospel of today comes to the well thirsting for water. Her
encounter with Jesus leads her to believe in him and to find in him the fountain of living water. God
comes in Jesus to meet us at this Eucharist and he comes to give us the living water of eternal life.

All:
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Leader: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
All: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

Reading 1 (EX 17:3-7)

A reading from the Book of Exodus

In those days, in their thirst for water,

the people grumbled against Moses,
saying, “Why did you ever make us leave Egypt?
Was it just to have us die here of thirst
with our children and our livestock?”
So Moses cried out to the LORD,
“What shall I do with this people?
a little more and they will stone me!”
The LORD answered Moses,
“Go over there in front of the people,
along with some of the elders of Israel,
holding in your hand, as you go,
the staff with which you struck the river.
I will be standing there in front of you on the rock in Horeb.
Strike the rock, and the water will flow from it
for the people to drink.”
This Moses did, in the presence of the elders of Israel.
The place was called Massah and Meribah,
because the Israelites quarreled there
and tested the LORD, saying,
“Is the LORD in our midst or not?”

The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
(PS 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9)

R. (8) If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD;
let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us joyfully sing psalms to him.
R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the LORD who made us.
For he is our God,
and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.
R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Oh, that today you would hear his voice:
“Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the desert,
Where your fathers tempted me;
they tested me though they had seen my works.”
R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Reading 2
(ROM 5:1-2, 5-8)

A reading from the Letter to the Romans

Brothers and sisters:
Since we have been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have gained access by faith
to this grace in which we stand,
and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
And hope does not disappoint,
because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
For Christ, while we were still helpless,
died at the appointed time for the ungodly.
Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person,
though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die.
But God proves his love for us
in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Verse Before The Gospel

(JN 4:42, 15)

Lord, you are truly the Savior of the world;

give me living water, that I may never thirst again.

Gospel
(JN 4:5-42)

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.

Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar,

near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
Jacob’s well was there.
Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well.
It was about noon.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water.
Jesus said to her,
“Give me a drink.”
His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.
The Samaritan woman said to him,
“How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
—For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.—
Jesus answered and said to her,
“If you knew the gift of God
and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink, ‘
you would have asked him
and he would have given you living water.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep;
where then can you get this living water?
Are you greater than our father Jacob,
who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself
with his children and his flocks?”
Jesus answered and said to her,
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again;
but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst;
the water I shall give will become in him
a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty
or have to keep coming here to draw water.”
Jesus said to her,
“Go call your husband and come back.”
The woman answered and said to him,
“I do not have a husband.”
Jesus answered her,
“You are right in saying, ‘I do not have a husband.’
For you have had five husbands,
and the one you have now is not your husband.
What you have said is true.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, I can see that you are a prophet.
Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain;
but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”
Jesus said to her,
“Believe me, woman, the hour is coming
when you will worship the Father
neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
You people worship what you do not understand;
we worship what we understand,
because salvation is from the Jews.
But the hour is coming, and is now here,
when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth;
and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him.
God is Spirit, and those who worship him
must worship in Spirit and truth.”
The woman said to him,
“I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ;
when he comes, he will tell us everything.”
Jesus said to her,
“I am he, the one speaking with you.”
At that moment his disciples returned,
and were amazed that he was talking with a woman,
but still no one said, “What are you looking for?”
or “Why are you talking with her?”
The woman left her water jar
and went into the town and said to the people,
“Come see a man who told me everything I have done.
Could he possibly be the Christ?”
They went out of the town and came to him.
Meanwhile, the disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat.”
But he said to them,
“I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
So the disciples said to one another,
“Could someone have brought him something to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“My food is to do the will of the one who sent me
and to finish his work.
Do you not say, ‘In four months the harvest will be here’?
I tell you, look up and see the fields ripe for the harvest.
The reaper is already receiving payment
and gathering crops for eternal life,
so that the sower and reaper can rejoice together.
For here the saying is verified that ‘One sows and another reaps.’
I sent you to reap what you have not worked for;
others have done the work,
and you are sharing the fruits of their work.”
Many of the Samaritans of that town began to believe in him
because of the word of the woman who testified,
“He told me everything I have done.”
When the Samaritans came to him,
they invited him to stay with them;
and he stayed there two days.
Many more began to believe in him because of his word,
and they said to the woman,
“We no longer believe because of your word;
for we have heard for ourselves,
and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Silent Reflection

Sharing on the Word of God by a member of the group/family or by all members.

CREED

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

Leader: Let us now offer to God our prayers and our needs.

Members articulate their petitions.

After each petition, all respond: Lord hear our prayer.
After all intercessions have been mentioned, the Leader continues:

Leader: Almighty God, you have heard our prayers and our needs. We ask that you grant them
through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one
God, forever and ever.

Amen.

PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

Leader: At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say

All: Our Father Who Art in Heaven …

All: My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

THANKSGIVING PRAYER/HYMN
Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me;

Body of Christ, save me;
Blood of Christ, inebriate me;
Water from the side of Christ, wash me;
Passion of Christ, strengthen me;
O good Jesus, hear me;
within Thy wounds, hide me;
let me never be separated from Thee;
from the evil one, deliver me;
at the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to Thee,
that with Thy saints, I may praise Thee
forever and ever. Amen.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Leader: Let us pray,

O God, our refuge in trials,
our strength in sickness, our comfort in sorrow,
spare your people, we pray,
that, though rightly chastised now by affliction,
they may find relief at last through your loving mercy.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

ADDITIONAL PRAYERS

PRAYERS TO OUR LADY

Consecration of the Sick to Mary

O kind and good Mother,

whose own soul was pierced by the sword of sorrow,
look upon us while, in our sickness,
we arraign ourselves beside you on the Calvary
where your Jesus hangs.
Dowered with the high grace of suffering,
and hopeful of fulfilling in our own flesh
what is wanting in our sharing of Christ’s passion,
on behalf of his Mystical Body, the Church,
we consecrate to you ourselves and our pain.
We pray that you will place them on that Altar of the Cross to which Jesus is affixed. May they be little
victims of propitiation for our salvation, for the salvation of all peoples. O Mother of Sorrows, accept this
consecration. Strengthen our hopeful hearts, that as partakers of Christ’s sufferings we may also share in
his comfort now and for evermore. Amen.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!

Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope;
to you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy towards us;
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb,
Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Leader: Pray for us, most holy Mother of God.

All: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Prayer for God’s Mercy: COVID-19

Heavenly Father,
we thank you for the gift of good health and peace
that we have enjoyed for so many years.
As we find ourselves in this time of crisis today,
we ask for your divine intervention
and mercy to be upon each of us.

Come and guide the minds of those working

to discover a treatment to the COVID-19 virus.
Grant them wisdom, knowledge, and clarity of mind,
so that all peoples will be free from the threat of this ailment.

We also pray for the healthcare workers

that are standing in the front line of this battle.
Father, we thank you for their hearts of service,
putting the needs of society before their own,
generously responding to the cry of Your people.
We ask that You will grant them strength and protection.
As they give of themselves in selfless service,
may You fill them with your Holy Spirit
as they work to be Your healing hands and feet!

Father, we also surrender to You

all those who have been afflicted with the virus.
Grant them Your healing grace, merciful Father,
so that they may recover swiftly
and continue to be witnesses of Your love in their lives.

Mother Mary,
we ask for your intercession in this great time of need.
Cover each of us with your blue mantle of protection,
so that we may be preserved in good health
to continue to glorify your son, Jesus Christ.
We make this prayer through Christ,
our Saviour and Redeemer. Amen.
Act of Consecration To The Holy Family

O Jesus, our most loving Redeemer,

Who having come to enlighten the world,
with Your teaching and example,
willed to pass the greater part of Your life in humility
and subjection to Mary and Joseph
in the poor home of Nazareth,
thus sanctifying the Family
that was to be an example for all Christian families,
graciously receive our family
as it dedicates and consecrates itself to You this day.

Defend us, guard us and establish among us Your holy fear,

true peace and unity in Christian love:
in order that by conforming ourselves
to the divine pattern of Your Family
we may be able, all of us without exception,
to attain to eternal happiness.

We consecrate to You this day,

the trials, joys and all the happiness of our family life
and ask You to preside over our gathering together,
to bless our spiritual and temporal affairs,
to ward off all danger from us,
to sanctify our joys and comfort our sorrows.
Pour out Your blessings on all family members,
present and absent, and be merciful to our departed ones.

Mary, dear Mother of Jesus and our Mother,

by your kind intercession
make this our humble offering acceptable in the sight of Jesus
and obtain for us His graces and blessings.
Pray to Jesus too, for all the families of the world,
to guard the cradle of the newborn,
the schools of the young and their vocations.
Saint Joseph, most holy Guardian of Jesus and Mary,
assist us by your prayers in all our spiritual
and temporal necessities;
that we may be able to praise our divine Saviour Jesus,
together with Mary and you, for all eternity.
Prayer to St Michael For Protection

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle,
be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray;
and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
