INDONESIANS SHINE AT RUN FOR FRIENDS

The Jakarta Post/Jayapura: Two hundred runners from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) ran
from Wutung to Skouw in the International Cross Border 10K on Wednesday.
The race started at Wafa Village, Vanimo, 7,5 kilometers from the RI-PNG border in Wutung,
PNG and finished in Skouw, Indonesia. The event, which adopted ‘Run for Friendship’ as its theme,
started at 8 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time.
Heavy rains did not affect the participants who kept their high spirits throughout the race.
Event was dominated by male runners. There were only eight female runners in the event.
Hanafi of Indonesia was first placed in the male category, completing the course in 31
minutes. Another Indonesian, FG Manori was first place in the female category, completing the course
in 44. The winners in both categories received a cash prize of Rp. 5 million respectively.
 The cross border race was the first of its kind held between the two neighboring countries and
was made possible thanks to cooperation between the Indonesian Papua province administrations
and the PNG Sadaun provincial administration, as well as the support of PT Freeport Indonesia as the
event partner.

Higher Education for Women

In this modern era, there are still some parents who are reluctant about sending their daughter to
college. The narrow attitude shown to women’s education largely due to traditional role of
women in society. A woman is expected to be a wife and a mother. Most parents believe that if
their daughters get married and choose to be a housewife, then the higher education will be a
waste. However, an education woman not only a better wife but also contributes something to
the society.
Nowadays, more and more women are successfully combining their career and marriage. Educated
women are richer both emotional and financially. They are able to find an outlet for their
monotonous drudgery of their housekeeping. They bring more satisfaction and contentment of
their live.
Depriving girls of higher education is class discrimination. Times have changes; modern society needs
the talents of its people regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men. In fact, in the
last few decades, women have made outstanding contributes to society.
Women should be given the freedom to be educated whether or not they get married or go to work
after finishing their education, because it is only through education that a woman will find herself
useful and discover what she wants in life. A woman who works is not an insult to her husband.

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Cinderella. She lived with her
stepmother and two stepsisters. The stepmother and stepsisters were conceited and bad-
tempered. Thety treated Cinderella very badly. Her stepmother made Cinderella do the harvest

she said, “you must leave before midnight.” Then away she drove in her beautiful coach.

It was takbiran night. It was also my birthday, and nothing happened. Or I had thought nothing
would happen, but I was wrong.
 
That night, I was watching television with my family when I heard someone lit fireworks in my
front yard. I peeped through my window glass but could see nothing. It was very dark outside.
Then I thought it had to be my cousins who lit the fireworks. Then I plopped down on my sofa

 General Sudirman (January 24, 1916 - January 29, 1950; also spelled Soedirman) was the military
commander of Indonesian forces during the country's fight for independence from the Dutch in
the 1940s.

Sudirman was born in Bodas Karangjati village, Rembang, Purbalingga, Central Java, 24 January
1916. He studied at the Dutch Native School in Purwokerto, and then at a Muhammadiyah

Peta battalion into a Banyumas-based regiment of the Republican army to resist Dutch
reoccupation of its former colony. The first major battle that he led was the Battle of Ambarawa

"coordinated attack" against British positions in Ambarawa, driving the British all the way to
Semarang. The battle ended on 16 December.[3]

On 12 November 1945 he was elected Commander-in-chief of the Army, a position he held until
his death. During much of the next five years he was sick with tuberculosis, but led several
guerrilla actions against the Dutch. He led the resistance to the Dutch attack on Yogyakarta, then
the Republic of Indonesia's headquarters, in December 1948. Theodore Friend (2003) describes
him as having "...a strangely blended samurai discipline, Marxist disposition, and raw
courage."[1]

Sudirman died in Magelang, 29 January 1950 at the age of 35. He was buried in Heroes'
Cemetery in Semaki, Yogyakarta. He received the title of National Hero of Indonesia as an
Independence Defender Hero. Sudirman was the first and the youngest General in Indonesia

APPLE MUFFINS

Ingredients:
         1 cup whole meal self-raising flour
         ½ cup brown sugar
         ½ cup oat bran
         ½ teaspoon cinnamon
         ¼ cup almond flakes
         2 large green apples
         1 egg
         2/3 cup milk
         60 g butter, melted

1         Turn oven to 220oC (425oF).

2         Grease 12 muffin pans.

6         Mix egg, milk and melted butter in a jug.
7         Add to bowl all at once.

11     Bake in oven for 15 to 20 minutes until golden.
12     Serve the muffins warm with butter and jam.
