Intro: Medicinal Plants And Their Uses
If you're lost in the wilderness, one can easily get sick, hurt themselves, and walk into that well-placed poison ivy. You don't have any medicine, so how are you to make
sure that you will be healed in time for rescue?
Easy. With this instructable, you can learn how to find and use plants to your medicinal advantage. If you are hesitant about eating medicine that does not come as a little
sterile pill, consider this: that little pill is made out of plants, but only a bunch of other stuff is added to that pill. Please keep in mind to wash the plant you are using, as
the plant could have contaminates that will make your situation worse. Also, the plants are based on North American plants, so I am sorry if these plants are not found in
your area.

As well, please comment your medicinal plants and their uses to add to the collection!

Step 1: Oak/Acorns
Oak trees and acorns are sources of tannic acid, which is excellent for treating skin ailments such as:
Poison ivy
Ingrown hairs
Swollen skin
Boils
Hemorrhoids

Choose some green acorns (ones that aren't ripe) and separate them from their shells, meat, and caps. Put them in a pot of boiling water for about half an hour, or until
there is a dark brown liquid in your pot. Let the liquid cool, and wash the ailments above with the liquid. You can also use this as mouthwash, but it will be very bitter.

Step 2: Pineapple Weed
Pineapple weed is a small plant that has small yellow buds. When the buds are crushed, they give off an aromatic pineapple/chamomile scent. The plant as a tea or a
poultice, can be used to treat:
Infections ( the poultice)
Upset stomachs
Fever

To make the poultice, pick the yellow bulbs and chew them. The taste will be slightly bitter, but not unpleasant. Spit the chewed bulbs out on to a gauze bandage, and
with the plant matter directly on the infected area, and firmly secure the gauze holding the pineapple weed. Make sure to keep changing the poultice, as it can do more
harm than good if it gets infectious.

To make the tea, follow the instructions for the acorn wash, but chop up the whole plant (except the roots) and put that in the pot.

Step 3: Dandelions
A common weed, dandelions are actually great for the human body, internally and externally. By simply eating the leaves, there are a wealth of good health effects such
as:
The lowering of blood pressure
Helping a weak heart
Kidney and urinary problems
Gout
Acne
Gallstones

Also, along with being rich in vitamin C, dandelions, when made into a poultice, have great antibacterial properties. The sap in the stems can also rid yourself of warts
and corns.
