Entrepreneurship Questionnaire
Entrepreneurship Questionnaire
Question 1. What are the ways you would like to make an income for music? So: what activities.
Name at least 3. And tell shortly why you are interested in them and why you think you can do
them.
Teaching: I really like to teach, I started teaching in my community in Mexico when I was 12
years old, for me it is one of the best things to do as a human being and hopefully every person
has something to teach.
Composing and arranging: To create and arrange, for me every musician who has academical
skills and a little amount of creativity can do it.
Question 2 For these income sources, how will you get the money? Via invoice, salary, cash or else?
Explain briefly per activity.
Conducting: If I get invited as a guest conductor I need to make an invoice depending on the
project. If I get invited as an artistic conductor for a period of time (commonly from 2 to 5 years)
I will have to sign a contract of salary.
Teaching: For an institution I need to sign a contract of salary, for private lessons cash is an easy
way to do it, I just need to have a good self administration.
Composition and arranging: for this an invoice for the person or ensamble that needs my services
could be the best option.
Question 3 About VAT (or BTW): give an example of some service you are offering (teaching or
concert) and how you would calculate VAT over it. Show a calculation.
Arrange 10 public domain medieval songs for an album of string quartet and piano, I will ask for
1060 euro with VAT. It is 1000 euro without VAT, VAT=6%. I calculate it by multiplying 1000 x
1.06 and I get 60 euros of VAT so 1060 the full price.
Question 4 What kind of intermediates in music business will be important for you? Why? Mention
at least 2. And give also in total 2 names per intermediate. (Example: I will need a publisher, and
I’m interested in XYZ Publishing and Jump Music Publishing)
A good agent for calling the promotor and a publisher, firstly I am interested in Mexican
Orchestras that are big institutions (they do all the promotion) like:
OFUNAM (Orquesta filarmónica de la Universidad autónoma de México)
OSN (Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional)
Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México
OSSLA (Orquesta Sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes)
Question 5 How can music rights be important for you? Zoom in on authoring rights, neighbouring
rights and maybe more. Explain why it’s important for the plans you described above.
Authoring rights are really important for me as a composer and arranger, and neighbouring rights
are also for me significant as a conductor because I will perform all kinds of repertoire from
medieval to contemporary. Rights for recording my music, arrangements or interpretation are
crucial.
Question 6 Make a profit and loss account for your own activities. Include some (fake) entries in
both revenues and costs.
Invoices out to Concerning Date Amount Ex. Amount with Finished deal
VAT VAT
Question 7 Make a costing for a project you could do. Also tell how it’s linked to your activities
from question 1
Dank je wel.
