Providing a New Perspective

Various photographers have started to document the issues that go on along the border

regarding undocumented immigrants. For example, John Moore won the 2019 World Press

Photo’s top prize for a picture of a crying child as her and her family are taken into custody

(Walker 24).

Long Quote (From Schloemer)

States Benefit from Change of Residency

Paul Schloemer describes how certain states can actually benefit from immigration:

For many years, Americans have been relocating to states with favorable climates and better

job opportunities. United Van Lines’ 2018 Movers’ Study shows a strong influx of people into

the western states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona; and an exodus from

the northeastern states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.1 Heavy tax

burdens in many of the outbound states listed above provide an additional motivation to

relocate. Significant opportunities to save taxes may be available, but clients must carefully

comply with state requirements to escape taxation by their former state of residence. Tax

consultants and financial advisors should be in the forefront of helping clients who are

considering relocation. (Schloemer,5)

Short Quote (from Jeff Faux)

Trump’s Questionable Popularity

Jeff Faux, argues that Democrats have the moral high ground since Trump’s ideas are not the

most popular among Americans: “Trump’s proposed wall is not popular, and most Americans

do not like his separation of immigrant children from their parents or his deportation of the

many undocumented people who have worked and paid taxes here for years.
