Learning Competency:

 Trace and explain the energy transformations in various activities.

I- Objectives:
At the end of the activity, you should be able to:
 Determine Energy Forms Present in the Operation of Different Simple
Activities.
 Describe Energy Transformations in the Different Simple Activities.

II- Subject Matter

1. Topic- Mechanical Energy Forms and Transformations
2. Time Frame- 1 hour.
3. Reference- Electronic PDF Learners’ Manual, page 4-7 of Unit 4, Module 2
4. Materials- Powerpoint presentation, yoyo, friction toy car, deflated balloon,
and Activity Sheet
5. Integration- English, ICT, and ESP
6. Concept-
The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy can neither
be created nor destroyed; it is merely converted from one form to
another.

III- Teaching Methodology

1. Elicit
 Divide the learners into three groups and let them arrange the
jumbled word using Powerpoint presentation to get the correct
sentence.
 Allow the learners to have a simple exercise and ask the following
question:
a. What makes you tired?
b. How does it happen?

2. Engage
 Show pictures to the learners using Powerpoint presentation and let
them describe.
 What do the pictures show about energy?
 How do energy in the pictures transform?
 What is energy transformation?

3. Explore
 Using the same group allow them to choose a group leader and a
presenter.
 Let them perform the activity 1 “ Little Shop of Toys”
 After 20 min. of doing the activity, let them present their output

4. Explain
 Presentation of the output
 What does the toy or object do?
 What energy changes take place as the toys or objects operates?
 What form does the stored energy start out in?
 What form does the stored energy turn into?
 What form is the energy output in when the object stops?
 What made each object to move a certain displacement and what
made each object to come to a stop?

5. Elaborate
 The teacher discuss the concept with the use of Powerpoint
presentation and ask the learners of the following questions:
a. How would you describe the energy transformation in Filipino
traditional game “sipa”?

b. As a student, how can you help to save our Mother Earth

from global warming caused by energy transformation due to
the human activities?

6. Evaluate
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer
1. Which among the forms of energy considered as potential
energy?
a. chemical energy
b. radiant energy
c. sound energy
d. thermal energy

2. Which among the objects is considered as having kinetic

energy?
a. ambulance siren
b. candle flame
c. hot plate
d. milk

3. Which event explained the sequence of energy changes

shown in the diagram below?

a. a headlight in motor bike

b. a turbine spins
c. electric current powers a flat iron
d. gasoline burns to run a jeepney

4. Which sequence of energy transformation best describes

when you switch on your battery-run radio?
a. Mechanical Energy Electrical Energy Sound Energy
b. B. Mechanical Energy Chemical Energy Sound Energy
c. C. Chemical Energy Electrical Energy Sound Energy
d. D. Chemical Energy Mechanical Energy Sound Energy

5. Which event illustrates the direct transformation of kinetic to

potential energy?
a. A cart rolling down a hill
b. A barbell lifted upward
c. A student lets go a stretched slinky
d. A twig falling from a branch

7. Extend
 Study Unit 4, Module 2 in Learners’ Manual on page 12-13 and
describe conservation of mechanical energy.
