Validation Rules

• To improve data quality for user defined attributes

• To define integrity constraints on the attributes of
Items.
• Can be defined on Operational as well as on User
Defined Attributes (UDAs).
• Rules encapsulate a single integrity constraint
• Rule Sets group multiple Rules together

Validation Rules
• “Composite” Rule Sets can be used to aggregate Rule
Sets that operate on different Attribute Groups and
ICCs.
• To activate a Rule Set, it is assigned to a Business Entity.
• Severity of validation rules can have the following actions::
a. Reject: The Business Entity cannot be saved until the
validation passes.
b. Needs Approval: This data requires that a Change
Order be created.
c. Warning: The Explanation Message is displayed to the
user, but the entity can still be saved.

Validation Rules
Limitations:

• Limitations of cross business entity (Note 1318501.1)

• Multi-row Attribute Group expressions cannot include
attributes from any other attribute group. They are restricted
to only using attributes from that Multi-row Attribute Group.
• Validation Rules only fire if you change the value. So if you
load data, then create validation rule, they do not fire to
cleanup your existing data until you change each item.
