Teacher Tips:
Use: Use these worksheets to practice and/or review conjugating verbs. They also are great formative
assessments, warm ups, or closure activities. Students will love to race!
Objective:
Students will be able to conjugate –er and –ir verbs in present tense for the subjects given.
Prep: Print off copies and cut in half so you have one sheet for each student, or for pairs of students to
share.
I warn my students beforehand if “it” is included as a subject on their sheet. This is a tricky one!
Fyi, I teach y’all as “vosotros/as” and you all as “ustedes”. The keys are consistent with that distinction.
I give students 1 - 3 minutes (put your timer up on the overhead projector or use a visible timer if possible) to
complete one sheet, depending on your students’ level. Many times though, I just say “ready set go”
and then stop them when I see a few kids are done.
When time expires, I say “pencils down”, and they switch their paper with a partner to grade it.
On the board, I write the correct answers (or display my key on the overhead). Students put a big X through
the box if the person they’re grading missed the problem or didn’t complete it.
After grading, students add up the Xs and put the #missed at the top of the page. I then ask, “Who missed
0?”, and write up those students’ names on the board; then “Who missed 1?”, etc. I often give prizes
for the top scorers.
This activity should take about 10 minutes to get through one round with grading, explaining, seeing who won,
etc. I often do it as a class ending activity. Great formative assessment!!
