PAINT PROCEDURE
1 General
1.1 Scope
This procedure covers the painting requirements for external surface of the heat exchangers
for BRUNEI FERTILIZER COMPLEX PROJECT
3 Execution of Works
3.1.1 The equipment shall be painted in accordance with attached painting schedule at
3.1.2 Prior to fabrication or installation shot blast clean and then primer coat shall be applied to the parts
which are not accessible after fabrication or installation such as girth flange and tubesheet part.
3.1.3 Prior to surface preparation, all gasket contact surfaces and other machined surfaces shall be protected
by hard cover sheet, from shot blast and handling damage and kept free of paint except rust preventive
And, expansion bellows, grounding lugs and bolting surface shall be also protected by proper method.
3.1.4 Prior to assembly for hydrostatic test, the bolt hole of all flange and around the gasket surface,
except gasket contact surface, shall be painted with primer paint only.
3.1.5 The paint, beyond a shelf life of 12 months, shall be prohibited. For zinc silicate,
max shelf life is limited as 6 months
3.2.1 The preferred method of pre-cleaning is with steam (however, should be avoided in the open field).
If steam cleaning is not possible, solvent cleaning shall be executed using a suitable solvent
3.2.2 Mill scale, rust-scale and foreign matter shall be removed by shot blast cleaning
3.2.3 Blast cleaning shall not be executed when Para 3.4.1 is met
PAINT PROCEDURE
3.3.1 Painting shall be applied by spraying method except special case such as repair
3.3.2 Prior to and during application as per manufacture's recommendations, paint shall

Product description
This is a two component polyamine cured phenolic/novolac epoxy coating. It is heat resistant up to 205 °C (401
°F) and can be applied on hot substrates up to 150 °C (302 °F). The standard aluminium version may be used
as primer, mid coat or finish coat. RAL 9006 is a specialty finish where a bright aluminium effect is required and
is only used as a final coat/finish coat. Suitable for properly prepared carbon steel, galvanised steel, stainless
steel and aluminium substrates.

To secure lasting adhesion to the subsequent product all surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from any
contamination.
Optimum performance, including adhesion, corrosion protection, heat resistance and chemical resistance is
achieved with recommended surface preparation.

Product description
This is a two component polyamide cured zinc rich epoxy coating. It is a high solids, high zinc dust containing
product. It conforms to the compositional requirements of SSPC paint 20, level 2 and ISO 12944-5. It provides
very good corrosion protection as part of a complete coating system. To be used as primer in atmospheric
environments. Suitable for carbon steel, repair of inorganic zinc silicate coating and damaged galvanised steel
substrates. This product complies with ASTM D520 type II zinc dust.

Suitable for structural steel and piping to be exposed to highly corrosive environments, C5I or C5M (ISO
12944-2). Recommended for offshore environments, refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings, mining
equipment and general structural steel. Specially designed as a primer for coating systems where extended

This is a two component amine cured epoxy coating. It is a fast drying, high solids, high build product. Specially
designed for new construction where short dry to handle and over coating times are required. Can be used as
primer, mid coat, finish coat or as single coat system in atmospheric environments. Suitable for properly
prepared carbon steel, aluminium, concrete and galvanised steel substrates. It can be applied at sub zero
surface temperatures.
Typical use
Suitable for structural steel and piping to be exposed to highly corrosive environments, C5I or C5M (ISO
12944-2). Recommended for offshore environments, refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings and mining

Surface (touch) dry: The state of drying when slight pressure with a finger does not leave an imprint or reveal

Walk-on-dry: Minimum time before the coating can tolerate normal foot traffic without permanent marks,
Dry to over coat, minimum: The shortest time allowed before the next coat can be applied.
Dried/cured for service: Minimum time before the coating can be permanently exposed to the intended
environment/medium.

Product compatibility
Depending on the actual exposure of the coating system, various primers and topcoats can be used in

The volume stated is for factory made colours. Note that local variants in pack size and filled volumes can vary

Storage
The product must be stored in accordance with national regulations. Keep the containers in a dry, cool, well
ventilated space and away from sources of heat and ignition. Containers must be kept tightly closed. Handle
with care.
Shelf life at 23 °C
In some markets commercial shelf life can be dictated shorter by local legislation. The above is minimum shelf
life, thereafter the paint quality is subject to re-inspection.

the capability and equipment to mix/stir and apply the coatings correctly and according to Jotun's technical
documentation. Applicators and operators shall use appropriate personal protection equipment when using this
product. This guideline is given based on the current knowledge of the product. Any suggested deviation to suit
the site conditions shall be forwarded to the responsible Jotun representative for approval before commencing
the work.
Please observe the precautionary notices displayed on the container. Use under well ventilated conditions. Do
not inhale spray mist. Avoid skin contact. Spillage on the skin should immediately be removed with suitable
cleanser, soap and water. Eyes should be well flushed with water and medical attention sought immediately.
Colour variation
When applicable, products primarily meant for use as primers or antifoulings may have slight colour variations
from batch to batch. Such products may fade and chalk when exposed to sunlight and weathering.
