ESP is not product but it’s aproach

ESP like tree it’s have roots and branches.the root of ESP is learning communication,and
the stem is language teachhing,in above language teaching has ELT and divide in 3 group:

1. english mother tongue {EMT)


2. english as foreign language {EFL)
3. english as second language (ESL)

and then in ESL/EFL can be devide by 2 part is:

1. General english
2. english for specific purpose (ESP)

and ESP devide be 3 part according to hutchinson,tom and alan waters.(1991)

1. english for science and technology (EST)


2. english for business and economic (EBE)
3. english for social science (ESS)

EST,EBE,ESS can be devide by 2 way in each other

ESP not particular language product in english learning,in fact that language not to
use for specific prupose that imply for special form of language

ESP just word and grammar in learning.like chomsky didwith regard to grammar
between perform and competence,that is between the people actually do with language and
the range of knowladge and abilities which enables them to do it

ESP is approach not as product.ESP not spesific language or metodhology or


something but some approach language teaching in all aspect is from the learners need or
reason to learning
Approaches to course design

course design is processing the raw data about learners need for lead the learners to
particular state of knowladge.

1. language centred design


this process has aim correlation between analysis of target situation and the content of
ESP
2. skill-centered course design
this skill is founded in 2 fundamental principle 1.theoritycal 2.pragmatic
3. a learning-centered approach
is based on principle learning is determine by the learnre because learning not just
process but it has mental learning ,negotiation betwwen individual
