CHAPTER ONE: BACKGROUND OF STUDY

1.1 Introduction

The emergence of economy globalization has accelerated the need for knowledgeable and
high skilled human resource. This is up to society to embrace it by setting goals and utilize any
necessary tools or technologies to make it achievable. The industries need to work each other to
bring the society to future proof position in this globalization world by using technologies. The
education industry need to prepare their administration, teachers and students with up to date
technology including ICT so they are always relevance. The teachers must be equipped with ICT
knowledge and skill to be taught to their students. On the other hand, the students must be able to
utilize ICT knowledge and skill that has been taught to them, so they be able to survive in highly
competitive career world in the future.

1.2 Background of Study

In this of 21st century, the utilization of ICT is one of the important part of modern
education nowadays. The utilization of ICT has been highlighted to heighten the quality,
accessibility and cost-efficiency of the delivery of education (Simin et al, 2015). The knowledge,
usage of and perceptions of teachers regarding ICT play main role for the full utilization take
place. Hence, this study is conducted to determine the teachers knowledge, usage and their
perception of ICT in education. This is to pinpoint the level of ICT knowledge and its application
in education. Furthermore, this study also want to determine the teachers perception of ICT in
education.
