LINEAR MOMENTUM AND IMPULSE EQUATIONS
Force exerted by A Flowing fluid on a Pipe Bend:
Impulse momentum equation is used to determine the resultant force
exerted by a flowing fluid on a pipe bend.
Net force acting on fluid in the direction of x = Rate of change of momentum
in x direction
p1A1 – p2A2Cosϴ - Fx = (mass/sec)(change in velocity)
p1A1 – p2A2Cosϴ - Fx =ρQ( final velocity in x direction – initial velocity in x direction)
p1A1 – p2A2Cosϴ - Fx =ρQ(v2Cosϴ - v1) ………… eq (1)

Fx = ρQ(v1 - v2Cosϴ) + P1A1 – p2A2Cosϴ ………..eq (2)
