FORMATOF AN ABSTRACT

Definition: A brief representation of a larger document (Project Report or presentation)

Qualities of an Abstract
 One developed paragraph
 Short (100-300 words)
 Includes all the major elements of the project (in order wise)
 No new information required in abstract
Structure of an Abstract
 One to Two sentences about the following aspects
 Topic – 2 lines ( Project Topic)
 Research Question: i.e. Objective of the project ( Finding and Evaluating/Analysing)
 Methods using for the data analysis
 Results (What you found in the project)
 Conclusion (Final words of the project)
 Abstract is completely in Active voice

Abstract is in minimum of 15 lines and maximum of 25 lines.

An effective abstract answers four questions:

(1) What? (What is the topic; 1-2 sentences)

(2) So What? (Why is the topic important; 1-2 sentences)

(3) How? (How known? i.e. methods, results and interpretations; the bulk of your abstract)

(4) What Next? (Significance and future directions; 1-2 sentences)
