1. What do you mean by the terms sensors and transducers? Describe the various
performance terminologies of sensors. Also describe about the various sensors
used in the measurement of displacement, position & proximity, velocity &
motion, force, fluid pressure, temperature and light sensors.
2. With the help of neat sketch explain the arrangement of hydraulic and
pneumatic systems. Also list their advantages and limitations.
3. Explain constructional features of a hydraulic cylinder. Briefly describe the
different configurations of hydraulic cylinders.
4. Describe the general internal architecture of a microprocessor system. Also
discuss the functions of its constituent parts.
5. Define actuator and actuation system. Explain in detail with the help of neat
sketches the pressure control valve, process control valve and direction control
valve. Also describe the rotary actuators.
6. Describe the following in aspect to the mechanical actuation systems:
(i) Kinematic chains (ii) Cams (iii) Gear trains (iii) Ratchet and pawl (iv)
belt & chain drives and (v) Bearings.
