India   Rural Empowerment Workshop held at
Bhopal
 
Bhopal, 18th June 2015:
 
Kansas State University (KSU), USA along with Soy Food Promotion & Welfare
Association conducted a workshop on “Rural Empowerment for Health, Nutrition and
Agricultural Development” in collaboration with the Assocom India , New Delhi.

This workshop helped in developing ideas as to how the agriculture in Madhya


Pradesh could be revolutionised to make it more profitable and remunerative.  All
the speakers enlightened the participants for proposed transformation in
agriculture.  

The workshop had primarily focused on the development of the ‘farming to fork’
exclusive cooperative model for the rural parts of India for the production of grains
like that of soybeans, after-harvest handling as well as storage, processing and
distribution of valuable products  to national as well as international markets. The
aim of this model was for increasing integration of rural income, addressing poverty
and promoting health and nutrition taking into account the vital issues like food
security, education, maternal and infant health and gender empowerment.
 
Dr. Sajid Alavi, Professor, Kansas State University, USA, said that the motto
of the workshop was to raise and discuss the issues related to the health and
nutrition, rural development, food security, gender empowerment, and maternal
and infant health. Innovation in agriculture is widely considered as the key to
achieve food security.
 
Mr. Raj Kapoor, MD, Assocom India, said that, the workshop yielded satisfactory
outcomes with respect to the issues related to the rural development. This type of
workshop is more relevant for the country like India.
 
 
With the primary objective of the innovative model, the team looks forward to
achieve the desired increase in rural income, solve poverty issues and promote
nutrition, health and other basic amenities the rural citizens are denied of in the
integrated fashion with proper maternal and infant care during a critical thousand
day window in between pregnancy and the age of two, among other things. J.N.
Kansotiya ,  Principal Secretary Women & Child Development, Government
of MP , Prof Avinash C Pandey, Vice Chancellor, Bundelkhand , University Jhansi
(UP) and Dr. K K. Singh, Director, Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering,
Bhopal were  present on the occasion.

The program was attended by the eminent government


officials, experts in agriculture, academic and industry leaders.
There was significant number of participation from the non-profit
organizations as well.
