    Boothathankettu is a natural dam located 10 km from Kothamangalam near Kochi, India that was formed by landslides from two large floods in the Periyar River in the 4th century and 1341. The landslides brought large rocks that blocked the river's flow and formed the dam. There is now also a man-made Boothathankettu dam built for irrigation purposes near the original natural formation. The area around Boothathankettu reservoir offers scenic views of forests and parks and activities like boating, fishing, and birdwatching at the nearby Thattekad Bird Sanctuary.
