VSV-LVDT Calibration
VSV-LVDT Calibration
VSV-LVDT Calibration
proportional to VSV stroke. On some NP site, however, this interface box is not supplied and
the LVDT signal – position conversion is done on the control panel software.
This LVDT behaves differently from those normally installed on other gas turbine appliances.
The main difference is that this LVDT appears as a 5 wires LVDT, but it has an Excitation Coil,
a Secondary or Output Coil and a Reference Coil.

The recommended excitation to the LVDT is 7 ± 0.7 V, 3900 ±10% Hz sine wave, with a
maximum harmonic distortion of 1%.

Having the Secondary coil a minimum value at half stroke we need to use the reference coil as a
threshold to discriminate on which side of the function we are.
The software is able to convert this two values in an angle position through this piece of logic:
KVSVLVR_NULL = Voltage Value of LVDT Reference Coil when LVDT Secondary Coil is
at its minimum value.
While the KVSVCALA_O (Offset) and KVSVCALA_G (Gain) can be calculated using a
system with two equation and two variables measuring ZT96SV1A voltage value at a known
VSV angle red on the VSV goniometry.

e.g.:
ZT96SV1B = 0.5 when ZT96SV1A is at minimum value and VSV Angle = 17.5 °
KVSVLVR_NULL = 0.5
The values of GAIN and OFFSET (KVSVCALA_O and KVSVCALA_G) should be the same,
or very close to be the same) for both side.
