Internship program information for hosts

Host an intern and catalyze life-changing experiences for young scientists.

From not-for-profit startups to international businesses, you can develop scientific minds
and innovators in the ecosystem of your organisation.

vibrant and diverse perspectives,
knowledge, analytical and research
skills
■ An internship can mean an extra pair of
hands for a project, a leadership
opportunity for your team, or the
discovery of new talent for your
company or organisation
Candidates are introduced to hosts and must
pass face-to-face interviews before
commencing their internships.
Host organisations must provide a project,
mentoring and supervision to interns.
Students can negotiate projects with their
hosts.
WHAT KIND OF SCIENTISTS APPLY?
■ Monash interns are 2nd and 3rd year
students completing majors across the
science disciplines:
Internships are credited within undergraduate
and postgraduate degree programs, and can
be completed within approved academic
teaching periods:
Semester one: February - May
Winter: June - July
Semester two: July - October
Summer: November - February
WIL internships are unpaid, although we
welcome stipends to cover students’ travel
expenses.

LEARNING?
Work Integrated Learning
(WIL) is an industry immersion experience,
where students can integrate academic
studies and professional development.
WIL internships are designed to synthesize
academic and practical learning, exposing
young scientists to diverse opportunities and
encouraging them to apply their skills across
industry.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Eligible students apply for WIL internship
opportunities directly through the Faculty. The
WIL STEM team screen applicants, who
complete a ‘recruitment’ process to develop
employability skills, including interview
techniques, soft skills and professional
communication.

microbiology and biochemistry,
for the duration of the internship - including
international internships.
