Trends and Innovations in Mental Health Nursing

Due to the stigma of mental illness and systemic flaws that limit access to
mental health care, people want less frustrating and more affordable paths
to improve their mental health. The academic researchers and government
organizations are creating innovations in mental health care and
technology to reach the community. Recent advancements in the field of
medical technology have helped therapists and psychiatrists explore new
techniques and healthcare trends to enhance the treatment being offered to
the patients. Mental health care is recognizing the potential of and Ms. Sunita Sharma,
adopting technology. Health service providers are increasingly seeking Lecturer,
new ways of working to improve quality by increasing cost-effectiveness NINE PGIMER,
and encouraging innovation in technologies and practices. The Chandigarh

an important focus for current healthcare research. The mental health field encompasses a variety of
specializations. The need for all segments representing mental health to work together to create

therapists online and is more accessible and affordable.
• Inconvenience: It takes valuable time to commute to a therapist’s office. Most therapists work during
business hours, so clients need to spend less time making money and stress more about what their
bosses think. With online therapy, you can chat anytime and anywhere.Moreover t is cost effective
and because of the stigma of mental illness confidentiality of the clients identiy will also be
maintained.
• Apps that Help People Manage Their Mental Health will tackle many issues at once.Mobile health p
• Online Counseling. From learning to shopping to dating, everything is going online. This has
sparked the idea of online counseling as one of the mental health care trends, where the patients
can meet a counselor online and avail therapy digitally. This helps them to avoid long waiting
queues at a clinic, and get medical help at the comfort and privacy of their homes. With
treatments going online, patients can directly avail authentic treatment from therapists rather than
googling the symptoms and diagnosing themselves with numerous disorders.
• Mental health innovation is long overdue. With telemedicine technologies booming in the health
care sector, mental health technology has been lagging behind. The unique nature of mental
health services can make it difficult to develop technology that successfully intervenes in human
behavior and actually creates measurable, positive outcomes. However, with advancing research
and awareness geared towards mental health issues, more companies are innovating in this space
than ever before. Emerging trends in recent years have the potential to completely change the
health care environment for those struggling with mental health conditions.

The results of AMANAT are positive however, it is important to institutionalize the mechanism of
constant capacity building of the nurses to ensure quality services to the citizens of Bihar. This
requirement gave rise to the concept of AMANAT Jyoti. Hence, Govt of Bihar has decided to develop a
mechanism for sustaining knowledge and skills gained by ANMs/GNMs during mentoring period. Each
district will have a District Mentoring Team (DMT) comprising of nurses from DH and peripheral
facilities. The already trained AMANAT Mentees will now take up the role of AMANAT mentors in their
own hospital.
How will it help the hospital and the patients
The AMANAT Jyoti Programme not only ensures a standardized upgradation of skills, but also brings in
proper documentation, good behavior, communications skills, team work, and counseling skills. It also
promotes sustainability of skills and practices in hospital resulting in lesser morbidity and mortality .

Salient features of AMANAT Jyoti


 Upgradation of skills of Nurses of Labor room
 Building up the Leadership skills of ANM/GNMs of Bihar
 Reaching out to the nurses posted in Health Sub Centers through ANM meetings and re- orienting
them to services to be provided at VHSND
 The content of the curriculum has been developed keeping in mind adult teaching learning
principles with the help of activities.
 Participants will be able to learn to manage maternal and neonatal complications through
Simulations so that the nurses are ready in-case of any emergency.
 Patient care and learning by doing is the utmost priority of the curriculum which enables
participants to improve their skills by conducting deliveries, managing complication etc.

Support from SRU


The leading light of AMANAT Jyoti would be AMANAT mentors, but initially to support them in
deliverance of curriculum NMS (Nurse Mentor Supervisors) would be helping the AMANAT Mentors.
The NMS are MSc or BSc Nurses who has been certified by National Skill lab as mentors. They would be
moving from facility to facility to support the AMANAT Mentors in deliverance of curriculum. The
remuneration, accommodation and travel of the AMANAT Jyoti team of mentors will be met by Care
India through a Bill Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF) Grant.
