SCENARIO 1

 Salina; 15 months old wt. 8.5kg Temp. 38.5 C


 •H/O cough- 4 days and not eating well(it is Salina’s initial visit). - not able to drink
& to take breast feed,
 no vomitting
 no convulsions
 O/E, not lethargic, fully conscious but not able to drink.

Q.1 Does Salina has any general ‘danger’ sign?


Danger sign: If cough persists more than 30 days investigate or refer the child to higher health
care system.( Inability to drink and breastfeeding)

Q.2 How would u classify salina’s illness


No pneumonia only cough and cold

Q. 3 How would u manage the case while sitting at RHC?


 Management of case
 Access the cough time period
 Treatment of cough
 follow up after 5 days
 soothing remedies: cough syrup
 counselling about nutrition

Scenario 2

 Aziz, 18 m. old, wt. 11.5kg. Temp. 38 C


 H/O cough 7days
 No general danger signs are present on exam.
 Except fast breathing, 45 breaths/min

Q.1 Classify the disease and give management accordingly.


Ans : pneumonia ( not severe)
Management
i. treatment at home
ii. provide some information to mother abt drug administration immediately and routine
follow up for 2 days
iii. antibiotics: can be used for 5 days
iv. treat all other symptoms

Scenario 3
Gul, 6m old wt. 5.5 kg. Temp. 38 C
H/o - Cough – 2 days, no H/o any other danger signs.
O/E - Difficult breathing with chest indrawing was present with 58 breaths/min
Q. Classify the disease;
If above child has 2 days h/o cough and breaths are min 38/m , no chest indrawing then ;
