Top 5 Value for Money Smartphones of 2019

When it comes to smartphones, 2019 has seen some of the most interesting and
capable ones to date. Smartphones, in general, are becoming so overpriced
nowadays that the $1000 phone is becoming a norm. But there are also some
companies that are still offering phones that are priced somewhat reasonably while
offering you a great bang for your buck. Here are some smartphones you should
definitely consider buying if you want the best features at a fair price point.

5. Google Pixel 3a
This so-called lite version of last year’s Pixel 3 has kind of taken the market by
storm. This little guy makes way more sense than the Pixel 4, for most of us. This
one has the vanilla stock android software directly from Google.
Do not let the plastic build give you the wrong idea. This one is truly a great choice
in this segment. Although the phone comes with a Snapdragon 670, a mid-range
SOC, it has the same 12mp camera from the Pixel 3 and the same photo post-
processing. If you open two photos taken from this one and a Pixel 3 and place
them side-by-side, you will struggle to find a difference. The camera is the main
selling point of this phone, and that enough is quite lucrative.
You also get 3 years of software updates straight from google so that’s a huge plus.
This one even has a better battery than the Pixel 4. The 5.6” OLED screen gives
you amazing colors too. And you know what’s the most exciting feature of this
one? Yes, that’s right. It has a headphone jack!

4. Redmi K20 Pro

Xiaomi has made a name for itself when it comes to the mid-range and upper-mid-
range smartphones. The company packs in tons of features with very lucrative
price points and great value. This one, sometimes called the successor to last year’s
hugely popular Pocofone, is one of the best picks in the $400 price segment.
This one is just as snappy as it’s more expensive counterparts. You won’t feel for a
moment that you saved a couple of hundred bucks with this one. This one has
Qualcomm’s flagship SOC, the SD855 inside. This one makes the processing of
this phone quicker than almost all flagships from last year. The main attracting
point of this one is the full display. It sports the smallest of bezels and no notches
or punch holes. The selfie camera rises up from the top with a motor whenever you
summon it. So you can watch your movies on its 6.39” OLED screen with zero
annoyance or interruption.
The phone has a massive 4000mAh battery that is sure to last you the whole day,
and then some. The main camera is a whopping 48mp sensor and you’ll also get a
telephoto and an ultra-wide-angle camera with this one. This doesn’t support
wireless charging but you can’t complain at all with this price.

3. Realme X2 Pro
This guy took the whole world by surprise and has successfully shown that Xioami
and OnePlus aren’t the only ones that can play this game. Packed with the latest
and greatest from Qualcomm, the SD855+, this one is just a beast when it comes to
performance.
The phone comes with a 6.5” super AMOLED display with a tear-drop notch.
That’s not all. The screen is 90Hz! You need to see it in person to realize the
fluidity of the screen. This comes shipped with Android 9.0 and will get Android
10.0 soon. The UFS 3.0 storage gives the phone extremely fast loading times.
The main camera is a 64mp sensor and it also has an ultra-wide and a telephoto,
the popular trio for this year. The camera may not be in Pixel 4 or iPhone 11
territory, but it gets the job done with crisp images and great saturation.
With this one, Realme has shown us what its capable of. With $1000 smartphones
becoming normal, this one gives you 90% of a flagship feel with just over a quarter
of the price. So this one truly is a great buy!

2. OnePlus 7T
You just cannot go wrong with OnePlus. The Chinese company has made an
impact and has proved again and again why you don’t need to spend a thousand
dollars on a smartphone. This one is no exception. OnePlus plays in the flagship
territory and this one is no less than a proper flagship. This beast of a smartphone
comes with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 855+ and is a great value for money.
The phone has a tall 6.55” OLED screen with a rather new 20 by 9 aspect ratio.
But that’s not at all the best thing about its display. This one comes with the
buttery smooth 90Hz refresh rate. You won’t know you need it till you actually go
out and use it. Trust me, the traditional 60Hz screens will feel sloppy once you’ve
given this one a try. This along with the smooth OxygenOS will give you the speed
you didn’t know you needed.
The phone goes back to the 6T’s water-drop notch and you get used to it and don’t
even notice it after a while. The camera set-up comes with a rather interesting
circle at the back with three cameras. A 48mp main shooter, a 12mp telephoto (2x
optical) and a 16mp ultra-wide make mobile photography way more convenient. It
might not compete with this year’s iPhone or the new Huawei, but it definitely
comes close. The phone also has a big 3800mAh battery that lasts you the day with
OnePlus’ optimization.

1. iPhone 11
This one in no way is a cheap phone and don’t you dare mistake it for a “budget”
iPhone. And considering its external hardware, the big black bezels around the
phone, and the not so high-end display, this one actually starts looking like a rather
expensive buy. But it has its good bits.
This one sports the Apple A13 Bionic, the best SOC right now and it shows while
you use it. The 6.1” 828p display brings back last year’s controversial display from
the XR, but specs aren’t always everything. You won’t realize it’s of lower quality
until you put it beside a Galaxy Note 10+. The phone fits perfectly in between the
iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. You’ll also get continuous software
updates for 5 years (or possibly more) straight from apple.
Let’s talk about the camera now. This one has one of the best main cameras of this
year. Apple makes huge strides every year with the cameras. They did it again in
2019. It’s missing the telephoto lens from the pro versions, but trust me once you
buy it, you won’t be even a tad bit disappointed with the cameras, they’re THAT
good.
The battery has also improved from last year. You get the extremely secure FaceID
in this one too. All in all, this is actually one of the best-priced iPhones of recent
years.

These are my top picks for the best value smartphones of 2019. But there are lots
of other phones that are trying to compete in this price segment. So it is a hard list
to set up. But you’ll definitely be satisfied with the purchase of any one of these.
